I've applied to 4 schools via ABP; RCSI, UCD, UCC, UCL

I have a B.S. in Biochemistry,

USA Citizen
3.55 GPA
2nd author Publication
Tons of Research, both Basic science and clinical
ER Volunteer
Great Letters of Recommendations
Great Personal Statement

My MCAT i took 2x, most recent score was 11P, 9V, 8B, for 28 (last time had 11, 6, 9)
So my highest composite is 29.

I really want to attend medical school in Ireland, which is my first choice, do you guys think I stand a chance?

Also do letter of intents/interest help for these schools, considering 2 of them dont conduct interviews??

Regards

I've seen people with your stats report that they've been accepted to Cork & Limerick, and maybe one or two with those kind of numbers for UCD. I think your MCAT is probably low for RCSI, and probably UCD too. But once again I'm going strictly from what others have reported on this board.

My understanding is the Limerick is the easiest Irish GEP to gain entry into however it is not eligible for US Federal Loans so unless you've got deep pockets, or parents with deep pockets, expect to be taking out private loans to attend.

I would guess that our personal statement counts a lot, especially for the schools that don't require interviews, but I really think the MCAT score is the most important factor for admission. It's their one way of evaluating applicants on the same playing field. I've read a lot of different things about what people think the schools are looking for but i've noticed that GPA doesn't seem to matter so much for the GEPs if you've got a decent MCAT.

Consensus is the that 5-year programs (TCD & NUIG) favor a high GPA (3.70+ if not higher) and that the 4-year programs are looking for an MCAT in the 28-35 range but mostly in the 30+ range.

Thanks for your quick reply! financially speaking it'll prob be a mix of both...parents and loans

I just really really want to study in UK, got TONS of Family in UK spread out, and while I do realize my low MCAT score, do you feel that the schools are receptive to Letters of Interest/Intent?

thanks

Ireland isn't part of the UK, Northern Ireland is but it's a different country and none of the ABP medical schools are in NI.

my mistake....meant to type "study in Ireland, as I got quite the family in UK' easily accessible from Dublin ~30 min plane ride.

I've spent many summers in UK so moving to Ireland would be something I would actually look forward to

Pretty much this

thanks...would RCSI as well as the rest of the schools be open to letter of interest or intent?
