I am a Canadian applicant and I did not have my application complete until the day before their deadline which was Oct 15th. However, they have just invited me for an interview.

I have previously heard that chances to get into UCSF are slim for out of state applicants and extremely slim for applicants that are not even residents of the US. Does anyone know if this is true?

Congrats on the interview!

Check out predents.com for UCSF.
Last year, 66 in-state, 14 out-of-state for a class of 80. I'm guessing the 14 include international students.

Out of the 8 pre-dental students I know personally who live in California, so far only one of us has gotten an interview.

So...yes, I'd say there is some truth to your question. 👎 😛

I'll be interviewing in January, not an international applicant but out of state. Those chances look slim but I'm thankful for an interview, never know. :xf:

Whatever the numbers, just go rock that interview. 👍

What day if your interview?

Do you think they take into consideration your citizenship status before or after the interview? Do they look at that before offering you an interview or do they consider that after an interview with your entire application?

i'm pretty sure they look at your citizenship after the interview, interviews are based primarily on grades and DAT scores, there really isn't time to consider it before.
oh here i found it:
Despite completion of these requirements as described, chances for acceptance by the School of Dentistry are slim. Foreign students who are not permanent residents of the United States should not apply unless they have superior qualifications and adequate funding for their professional educational and living expenses. It should be noted that UCSF financial aid is limited to United States citizens or permanent residents.

but i don't think you should lose hope. the fact that they're interviewing even after the dec acceptances have been handed out is a good sign. hope you rock the interview!

Oh wow....🙁. Are these the only ways of getting an American citizenship?
a) Marry an American
b) Get sponsored by your job
c) Get family to sponsor you

If you get into a dental school, can they sponsor you to get one? I really want to live and practice in the states afterward!

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement! 😳 I'm just completely surprised they offered me an interview.
