So I hear UOP really values high DAT scores. Like 21+ to be even considered. Is this true? I have a 20 AA/21 PAT/20 TS/ 20 Bio/ 21 Gen Chem/ 22 Ochem/ 19 RC/ 18 QR on my DAT with a 3.80 GPA. Would they really not even consider me? I understand there are many more factors (personal statement, volunteer hours, shadow hours, etc.) that go into it, but will I not even be considered with a 20 AA? This is one of my top schools which is why I am so curious. On the UOP website, their incoming class averages for Fall 2015 were 22..BUT with a GPA average of 3.5. Do I still have a chance?

Thoughts?

Ok bottom line. Are you from Cali or not? Not being from Cali puts you at a huge disadvantage. I'm OOS but I got an interview with my 23aa

It's private they don't care at all.

Only 17 % of last year's class was from OOS and only 4% of their overall interviews were OOS, so he is correct, being OOS is a disadvantage.

A lot of the interviews and spots go to UoP undergrads who do the (2+3) program. That skews the numbers quite a bit. And I agree that statistically being OOS is a disadvantage but I don't think that reflects reality.
The same happens with Loma Linda and Western mostly being in state and with Roseman being made of mostly Utah people.

But they have no benefit in being more selective to in state applicants and in the interviews they make it known that there is no preference one way or the other. It could be 100% out of state of the instate applicants sucked that year.

Yeah the accelerated program at uop guarantees an interview if they make it through with certain grades so that skews the numbers. When I interviewed, out of 10 people, 3 were from uop, 3 oos. Stan said they don't care and just take the most qualified but who knows, they might favor CA slightly.

They actually do have more benefit in selecting in state applicants. In my group I was the only person not from the west coast, and about 7 of the 10 were from California. Those in California are more likely to choose UoP because it's familiar and it's close to home so they're more likely to stay instate where they see themselves practicing after school. Just because it's private doesn't mean they give equal consideration even if they say they do. They admit people they think are most likely going to matriculate.

I'm still waiting for UoP to respond too after getting their " We received your app and it is under review"..Praying for others who are waiting also!! Cheers.

As a first year student, ther'es nothing to worry about much if you haven't received an interview yet. A lot of the time, students receive interviews after the new years and they run all the way up to Feb/March. They also look at extracurricular activities as well. There are a number of students with the same credentials as you academically but did a few special things such as ran a business or worked for years in dental clinics, so do take that into consideration

Thanks!
I hope they show me some love 🙂
