Hey all, I would greatly appreciate some insight on this current cycle. Recently got my MCAT score which was 500, retake from 497. I don’t know what happened as my FL’s were consistently 510. I applied strictly to DO schools and was complete in mid July however added schools after my MCAT score. Do I have any shot? My GPA is 3.53 (upward trend with 4.0 my last semester), sGPA 3.4 and EC’s:

- Division 2 soccer club team captain
- Student athlete at my university for 2 years (two awards)
- 50 hours of tutoring underprivileged kids
- 50 hours shadowing pediatrician
- 40 hours shadowing internist
- 250 hours volunteer training and coaching kids in a youth soccer academy
- 70 hours volunteering in ambulatory surgical unit
- 800 hours of scribing for various doctors including 2 DO’s
- 700 hours of training and hiring new scribes while working with doctors and medical staff to implement new medical scribe programs
- 80 hours of community service helping immigrants
- Worked and contributed to family income throughout college LORs - 1 DO, 1 MD, 1 PA, 1 biochem professor, and some others

Note: I am a reapplicant (first time applied to DO schools as well)

Would a January MCAT retake update schools and help my chances? I received a secondary today from NYITCOM (school I really want to go cause of mission and location) stating that they’ll accept Jan MCAT if it’s a retake. I really can’t afford to wait another cycle. Thanks for your help and input.

What did you get on your MCAT subsections?

Which schools did you apply to ?
Thank you for the reply. I’ve applied to NYITCOM, WVSOM, Touro Harlem/Middletown, Touro Nevada, UNECOM, PCOM, Rowan, Lake Erie, and WesternU so far. I will most likely add 3-4 more schools but have disregarded CCOM and Touro Cali because of their high MCAT scores. I also know EVCOM is forgiving of low scores but I do not meet one of their course requirements. I know I can be a doctor without a doubt, it’s just demoralizing knowing that all the work I put in to get this far and bringing up my MCAT scores on full lengths but yet I probably won’t get in due to the score. I do have strong ties and reasons for NYITCOM and my advisor has an excellent relationship with the committee.

I suggest applying more broadly to many more schools due to your MCAT scores. Consider adding these schools:
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT-Arkansas
BCOM
UIWSOM
LMU-DCOM
UP-KYCOM
CUSOM
VCOM (all 3 schools)
PCOM Georgia and South Georgia

Most of these schools have MCAT medians in the 498 to 502 range so you should receive some interviews.

Alrighty thanks for the list. Should I retake the MCAT in January and update schools if they waitlist me or if I have any pre-interview holds? Would that increase my chances for this cycle? Even if I don’t get in I’ll have an early MCAT result and can apply early next cycle as well.

Most schools do not take Jan MCATs for admission to that cycle

My desired school included in the secondary email that they do. I was wondering if I should do it to get some love. It’ll also give me enough time to study and find what went wrong. I believe there is also a lot of movement on the the DO waitlist but I’m not entirely sure if this is a good plan. Let me know what you think and thanks for the reply.

I'm just saying that most don't. That school is very much the exception
