Chances for Dental School?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have to take the DAT for use to give you a good estimate. For now, you are in the "OK" range, just apply early and take the DAT early and have all of your documents in by June 06. PAT, buy my materials I am selling! QR, just read a lot of online articles. You want to increase your speed on reading material, better yet read the article once, jolt down the main points of it and then come back to the article after a while and try to find the main ideas you noted on a piece of paper in the article.

I was formerly a pre-med/pre-dental undecided student, but now I am sure that dental school is right for me (for many reasons). Could you all tell me what you think my chances will are at UAB and UT I am a resident of Alabama.
URM/LI Native American
Overall GPA 3.10
Sci 3.20
I am a R.N. with ACLS and I have lot's of EC's SGA Senate, Tutor, Voluteer, Cancer Research, Stanford Pre-Medicine and UAB Pre-med programs, US Coast Guard Reserve Etc.
Also what is the best prep for QR and PAt?? thanks!!

just looking at your stuff you look good so far. but the Stanford pre-med and uab pre med programs might back fire on you when admission commitees are looking at you and deciding if you have enough experience in the dental field.

I would suggest volunteering at a dental office. To me it looks like your premed all the way with all your stuff you listed.

Increase speed of reading is a must. I myself, just spent about 2-5 minutes reading the passage. I would look at the question, search out the key word in the question and find that key word in the passage to find the answer.

jotting stuff down takes way too much time..

oops! I have QR exams and materials for sale as well. No RC stuff tho. But for QR, its nothing but practice.

i agree with some of the other people. intern at a dental office or shadow or something dental related. you dont want to look like a pre-med that didnt think he/she could get in so they applied to dental school.

as for pat, practice practice practice. topscore is good and also kaplan but alot of that is if you are left brained or right brained i think. for math, also topscore and kaplan prepare you pretty well i think. and ofcourse the DAT FORUM!!!! some really helpful people in there in the same situation as you.

do good on your dats and you will have no problem getting many acceptances. good luck :luck:

I agree, rock the DAT and you will be straight! My stats are pretty similar to yours and if i do well on the DAT, i know i will get in somewhere... Apply to alot of schools to, I will probably end up applying to about 12 schools. Just have to be willing to move anywhere

You're a Native American. Apply to whichever school you wish and you will gain acceptance, simple as that. If you want to do well on the DAT, I would recommend Kaplan's blue book for the sciences and DAT Achiever or Barron's for the PAT. But seriously, don't sweat it...get 19s and you should be golden.

Heres a little something to back that up...

Native Americans make up approx. 0.9% of the U.S. population, but 0.42% of dental school enrollees. Not to mention reservations and such which may be considered underserved areas...
