No. This is a true story. I bumped into that guy again, and I told him that he should create an SDN account and talk with you guys. I think maybe that'll set him strait. Anyhow, he just bought a brick of weed with his friend; so he'll probably be high for the next week and a half, and won't get around to posting here very soon. But he probably will eventually; I recently showed him the thread again and he's pissed about the way some of you guys have been responding to me.

Tough.....tell him to shape up or ship out to another career.

sounds like a great candidate for med schools! but seriously, this thread is scaring me with the negatives about the 3.2 gpa, and I thought I would have a really good chance with that gpa (with the 32mcat.) Realiztically, I think if someone with a 3.2 gpa (1 or 2 derivations below average?) has a 28+ mcat(1 or 2 derivations above) they have a decent shot.

This guy I know is really interested in becoming a doctor. On his second try his mcat scores are now verbal reasoning 6, physical sciences 6, biological sciences 5, and he got an "M" on writing . He goes to a state school, and has a 3.2 GPA in a geology major.

He told me that admission standards at DO schools are way lower than at MD schools, and he thinks he has a shot. He said he knows people with similar scores currently in osteopathic schools. Is this correct? Or should I tell him to retake the MCAT? He's a really nice guy and I want to help him out.

thx. 🙂 🙂

Yes, DO admissions criteria are not quite as harsh as MD, but he sure as hell will not get any interview with those scores. For DO, he should try to get at least 8's on all the sections, ideally 9's.

No offense to everyone, but if you guys can't tell this dude is full of **** and just messing with everyone, then you need to re-read his posts. My guess is he'll eventually open another SDN account, pretend to be this invisible "friend", and then continue with all of the bull****.

My advice once again is to ignore him.

i'm not sure where he's getting his facts that 'DO schools (admission stds) are way lower than at MD schools' cuz with a <20, i think its hard 2 get into ANY med school unless u have sth special (and an awesome GPA) or some connections. both ur friend's GPA and mcat score r low 4 DO or MD schools (although there r exceptions, myself being 1 since my GPA is lower than his). i think he should def retake the mcat and raise that score as well as 2 try and raise his GPA as much as he can.

Tell your friend he is an excellent candidate for a caribbean medical school, particularly one that has a horrible track record and is located on an island where weed is legal. He will be in heaven, maybe he will even find his true calling in life, drug running!

Are you accepted to MD school yet..No most likely not. You are a young kid ( most likely not off mom's tit yet) playing on your older brother's computer. Hey..kid...find a new hobby and learn to use your brother's keyboard.

Yeah, the troll on a roll. I'm takin' bets as to how long his username will exist on SDN before it is anihilated by someone in control. You should marvel at his other posts before they are deleted.

What is wrong with people?! I seriously do not understand why *****s like this don't get a life. Do you people actually think anything this dip s@#! says means anything, this is freakin SDN, nobody gives a rats a$$ what initials are behind your name, this is a waste of my time.

what about some one with a 22 on their mcat and a 3.9 gpa what are there chances at D O school

I doubt he would have a decent shot at any med school unless he fits some weird demographic. Say a pink polka-dotted 2 foot tall giraffe with a fifth leg sticking out of your neck or something like that. If he fit that demographic he has a darn decent shot.

I apologize, Dan, for my rude and unprofessional previous response. I must say though, that Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine are just as competent and capable as Doctors of Allopathic Medicine. D.O.'s are entitled to the same residencies as M.D.'s are afforded. D.O. schools just place less emphasis on the numerics and place more emphasis on the "over-all person". If this is something that you cannot recognize and accept, then I must conclude that you are a very ignorant person and that you will most likely make a poor physician. Good luck and Godspeed to all your future patients, for they will need it.

Just my 2 cents! 🙂

Good luck to him with 17 MCAT and 3.2 GPA. He really needs it. Perhaps, he should believe in God. One year is long enough for God to make a miracle.

FYI, God's miracle making capabilities are not constrained by time or lack of time 🙂
