Hi guys,

I know this type of thread has been created multiple times but I feel very antsy and very nervous about my application that has been submitted and processed and waiting to be mailed for the next cycle. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.23
OAT: TS: 350 AA: 340
(In 4th year undergrad at the moment at the University of Waterloo)

Shadowing: one optometrist at around 80 hours over a summer
Volunteering: two different hospitals, food banks, pre-optometry club
Work experience: teaching assistant, lead tutorials.

Schools I've applied to: NECO, NOVA, PCO, SUNY.

Thanks for all your input ! Greatly appreciate it.

Yea, I think you will be fine, too. Even though your GPA is a little low, your OATs are competitive. I think you'll get some interviews and the schools usually say that if you get an interview, you've passed the academic requirements.

Also, I shadowed 70 hours with various optometrists and also had experience shadowing 2 ophthalmologists. When I interviewed, the interviewers really liked the amount of shadowing I did. So that you shadowed 80 hours definitely works in your favor; I have a feeling that that many hours is on the high end of the scale (definitely a plus!). If you are antsy, though, I'd suggest shadowing more and if possible, different types of optometrists, even if it's only for a day. That way, at your interviews, you can wow with even more knowledge of the profession.
