Are my chances for specializing not happening if I earned a C in both Histology and Gross Anatomy my first semester of dental school?
In general, what are my chances for specializing if I have Cs?

It all depends on your specialty choice and how you do the rest of your time in school. You will need to have good grades and many other extracurricular's to improve your application but it is possible. Just work hard then see where you are after year 2.

which specialties are easier to get into than others?

More important question - what do you want to do?

There are people who get into the competitive ones (OMS, ortho, peds...) with less-than-perfect grades but it's an uphill battle and they usually will have something else that makes them stand out.

You haven't killed your chances for anything, but you're going to have to make-up for those C's if you're gunning for top specialties/programs.

YES think about C's ---- CV
Most programs look at IMPROVEMENT - the courses you mention are early in your education. Try to Concentrate more, show Care, Concern to your patients. and COMMUNICATE with the faculty.

Improve your CV with extracurriclar activities without jeopidizing you grades. If studing is hard, you may be able to study and do other thinks - like volunteer charity projects, research, but if you - do them,... be an all well rounded person.

Communicate, work with faculty so you will get good recommendations.

You may need to plan a longer trip to specialization - like with a GPR or AEGD.

For finances and experience... the military may help.... if you can join, bills and pressure may be less, you may be able to get into one of their grad programs, but atleast more experience which means when you get out, better chances at GPR, AEGD and Speciality.

Good luck
