what are my chances? and is this enough schools?
will be a re-applicant, (applied late october, received 3 interviews, waitlisted at 2 schools), GPA: sci 3.3 cum 3.4, DAT: 19 AA 21 TS 21 PAT (low QR: 15 bought down my AA), good EC's volunteering, shadowing specialists and general dentists, getting involved with research right now. I will be applying the 1st day the cycle opens so I hope this will increase my chances!

Schools that I'll apply to,
ASDOH, MIDWESTERN, LLU, UCSF, UCLA (LONG SHOT I KNOW), UOP, USC, WESTERN, UNLV, NYU

what do you guys think?

If you applied in late October and still got 3 interviews, you should be fine this time again. A lot of schools start interviewing in Sept-Oct.

I'm guessing you're from Cal then, if you're applying to all of those?

You should be good with those schools, although a couple more would never hurt.

Your QR is low enough that you may be thrown out of some schools (because of their cut offs). But on the bright side, most schools really don't care about QR score.

Good luck!

Yea, I'm from cali, and would like to stay on this side of the states, so I basically choose the schools which accept the most california residents as well. And yea the low QR sucks but I figure many schools don't care about it, cause I contacted UCSF and UCLA and both said that those scores are competitive and they would not advise a retake. So, I'm going with there advice. I was thinking about adding a couple other school but didn't want to just waste my money applying if I didn't want to go there.

Have you applied to ASDOH before? Because if not that school is very particular on who they interview. I am from Arizona and applied there this last cycle and was denied in November without an interview. I have similar stats as you (DAT = 21 AA, 23 TS, 23 PAT GPA 3.49, sGPA 3.42), 3 interviews and no acceptances. So I called them this last month to see why I wasn't granted an interview. I was told that my scores and GPA were great and all my other portions of my application were good but that I lacked the proper type of community service that they were looking for. They told me they look at 3 things to give an interview. GPA, DAT (obviously those two) and community service or volunteerism at places such as dental clinics, soup kitchens or homeless shelters. So if you have that type of community service then by all means apply because you have a good chance for an interview but if not it might save you a few bucks or allow you to apply to another school.

good looking out bsstanda, I am still in the process of volunteering and hopefully by the time ASDOH sends out a secondary I will have a good amount of hours at the community level.

How much do they need for community service? I've been involved this newspaper for the homeless (since late last semester). I am on the board of director and a writer at the same time and I am probably gonna do this until I graduate (I will be a junior in this fall).

You know that is something I should have asked that, but didn't. Because the school is oriented toward giving back to your local community, I imagine you should have enough to show that you have been and will continue to be community oriented after dental school. I really don't know how much that is though. As for myself I have done about 360 hours as a cubscout leader, mission for my church but those types of community service hours are not what they are looking for. Hopefully that gives a little insight. I'm sure if you call the school though they would be more than happy to let you know if there is a specific number of hours that need to be reached.

Yeah but the time you gain more community service experience, your application would have already been submitted. If you wait until you get more experience before submitting then you will be making your application very late. If you look at predents they don't accept most of the people they interview anyways so all-in-all unless you are really set on ASDOH I wouldn't apply there.

Do you have to write the number of hours of volunteering on application for ASDOH?
