Chances of acceptance after accepting offer elsewhere

Hi all! It was just brought to my attention that prospective schools can see if candidates accepted an offer from a different school. I accepted an offer to my second choice school just to be safe as they said they give out more acceptances than available seats. Does anyone know how the admissions committee from my top choice school will view this acceptance? Will it hurt my chances of getting an offer to my top choice? Thanks in advance for any input!

From my understanding schools cannot see that you’ve accepted another school’s offer until after they extend you an offer. So it’s not like schools can poke around and see all the schools applicants have been accepted to already before they decide to accept you.

It says this on PTCAS: “any program that offers you acceptance will have access to the number of acceptance offers you have received from other programs and the number of other offers you accepted.”

From my understanding schools cannot see that you’ve accepted another school’s offer until after they extend you an offer. So it’s not like schools can poke around and see all the schools applicants have been accepted to already before they decide to accept you.
