Hey everyone, I'm actually pre-dental but I am asking this question on somebody else's behalf. After receiving an interview invitation for a PhD or PsyD program, what are the odds of being eventually accepted? Do schools invite a lot more applicants to interview than will actually be accepted, or do they accept most of the applicants that interview?

Thanks!

They interview a lot more applicants than they accept most likely. In the two programs I was affiliated with, we interviewed about 40-50 people for 5-7 spots every year. This was for a fully funded PhD program. You'll get a much different answer for some PsyD's or unfunded programs.

For the programs I interviewed with, each lab was accepting 1 person. There were 3-5 other people interviewing as well for that one spot. So I have a 17%-25% chance to be accepted after interviews (this does not take into account the chance that someone could be accepted then decline).

But it varies program to program. These are fully funded clinical phd programs.

Thanks for the responses everyone!
