Hello all I am currently a senior about to graduate this May. I plan to take a full year off after my undergrad to study for the MCAT and improve my application as a whole. My current statistics are below

Chemistry Major
cGPA 3.7
sGPA 3.65
ER scribe 1500+ hours
Volunteer exp (non-clinical) ~300 hours
Volunteer exp (clinical) ~100 hours
Shadowing exp ~100 hours across different specialties.
I will also have strong LoR from DOs I work with currently in the ED.

Of course the MCAT plays a major role in acceptance into many programs, but I have already taken several practice exams averaging about a 508. Considering I will have a lot of extra time to study during the year off I hope to achieve a score a little above a 508.

The issue that concerns me the most is my lack of research experience. Research has never been an interest of mine and I would 100% prefer to go into primary care.

What are my chances in acceptance into DO programs and what schools would you recommend applying too?

You are golden! Keep on working on your MCAT, app and you should hit 515+ with ease!

You'll be fine for any DO if you get a 508 MCAT on top of what you have. If your MCAT permits, apply MD as well! You don't necessarily need research and there are many MD schools that put a focus on primary care too!

Come back with an MCAT score and a regional preference and we'll talk 🙂 keep it up!

You're fine for MD and DO right now. Come back with an MCAT score tand we can then advise properly.
