Does anyone know how difficult it will be to get accepted into medical school (DO or MD) with a traffic violation - misdemeanor (excessive speeding). No drugs, no alcohol, just normal speeding while coming from VCOM open house and no prior criminal history. What a nightmare this has been. Any response would be greatly appreciated. 🙁

Thanks.

Eh, I doubt it really makes a difference. We all speed, just not everyone gets caught. I'm guessing this is a "reckless driving ticket" for doing 15+ above the posted speed (yes, I've cried my way out of one of those before). I don't think adcoms will hold that against you. Just be upfront about it.

Just curious if you got your ticket in VA? It's a notoriously ridiculous state in regards to speed traps and speeding tickets (my only 2 tickets have been from Dinwiddie County, VA). Their normal speeding tickets also come up on background checks...so over-the-top!

But yeah, you'll be fine!

no worries - you are fine. basically they check your record to see if you've run into trouble with things (like drugs) that you'd have easy access to with a medical license... anything that could make giving you an MD unethical.

Thank you both PinkIvy08 and redlight for your encouraging words. I am trying to put it behind me and focus on the next task ahead 🙂.

Yes it was in Botetourt County in Fincastle Virginia, one of the worst jurisdictions in that area and they do have ridicoulos laws for speeding. It has made me really wonder about the judicial system that we live in. But there is nothing I can do but slow down...Thanks again!
