Hi guys, I am a US MD M3 considering anesthesiology. I go to a (unfortunately) brand new school in NY. My Step 1 score was 224, Step 2 pending, but conservative estimate of 230. Grades on clerkship thus far have been pass. Assuming I fit in 2 anesthesia electives, possible LORs from FM, anesthesia, sub-i, what are my chances of getting any anesthesiology spot? I know the new school will hurt a bit, but could it be overcome?

Certainly doable. Do electives at where you would like to match and shine. Show up early, stay late, ask to do a presentation, etc. Your scores are average so apply broadly. Throw in a few wish list spots. I think you will be ok. Good luck and best wishes!

Wait you're either going to hofstra or CUNY which are pretty established already, or correct me if I'm wrong I thought CUNY has been around for awhile it just changed names and now has it's own 3rd and 4th yr rotations?

I wouldn't worry about the newness of your school.

You’ll be fine with those scores on getting enough interviews to match
