Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew of people who were accepted after being deferred from Early Decision at the same school. I am not getting my hopes up, but I was just curious as to how often it happens. Thanks!

Is this the situation you are in?

Why did you apply ED? Did you submit to other schools when you got the bad news? Have you been submitting secondaries?

ED is a very iffy app strategy, really only suitable for people who for personal reasons can't attend any other med school (married spouse, family issues, etc).

I don't know too much about ED other than as previously mentioned it's usually for people who absolutely cannot attend school anywhere else. If this is the case for you, since you are still in the running, I would try to impress upon the school the reasons why you did ED. There was some poster last year who talked about how, after getting waitlisted during his application year, he sat down and wrote a sincere letter of intent at his top choice. I'd say now is probably the time for a sincere, well-written letter of intent that highlights the reasons the program is best for you as well as throwing in some things about you that make you an asset to the program as well.

Well, OP, I just got deferred early decision, and let me say that I am definitely keeping my hopes up. It's not that I am unable to attend any other medical school than that to which I applied EDP, but I ultimately decided I would rather wait a year to go to medical school than move far away from family and friends for four years (and spend thousands of dollars on the application process to boot). At my (state) school of choice, I know of several people in this year's incoming class who were deferred from EDP. I imagine it varies by school though.
