I'm majoring in Biomedical sciences and Spanish.

My GPA is currently a 3.44. I've had about 5 shadowing experiences at the hospital in my city. I've started volunteering at a local clinic as well.

I'm the co-author of 3 papers in chemistry. I will most likely have 5 papers publish before receiving my undergraduate degree.

I plan on taking the MCAT in Spring 2012 before I graduate in Fall 2012.

I know that my GPA is a bit below average, but I still want to get accepted to a good medical school and pursue an MD/ PhD

Can someone please give me some advice???

Given that you do well on your MCAT, I think you'll be fine. Having said that, though, I should add that I believe the application cycle is beyond publications, GPA, and MCAT scores. Schools choose students that they believe are well-rounded, unique, and capable of succeeding in medical school. If you can strongly portray all those things about yourself--along with reasonable numbers as backing--then you'll be fine. Apply smartly as well.

No problem! I should correct myself, though, because I didn't realize that you wanted to pursue an MD/PhD. That is more competitive given the few amount of spots available, and I'm sure getting into an MD/PhD program would require that you have good quality publications under your belt (for the sole purpose of showing that you're actually interested in the research you want to pursue).

Of course. Thanks again for letting me know I could still have a chance of pursuing med school.

If you can, take a bunch of random "easy" courses to get your GPA up as much as you can. I am finding here that the schools are more forgiving of a lower MCAT than they are of a low GPA.
