This is my second time applying to the pharmacy program.
I graduated with B.S in Biology with 2.8 GPA. To raise my GPA, I've been taking extra science classes (not at CC) this year. My postgrad GPA is 3.5. I will be taking my PCAT this June. Then I plan on applying July/August. I was also planning to taking summer classes, but not much is being offered due to the budget cuts. I plan on taking more classes this coming Fall 2010, and hoping that these grades will be added to my GPA.

First, should I try my best to take some summer classes? Will it heavily increase my GPA.

Second, should I wait until my PCAT scores come in THEN apply to the schools.
Should I apply as soon as I can, even if my summer or fall classes are not completed yet?

Lastly, do I have a good chance of getting in this year? Or should I expect to continue taking more science classes? Should I take some liberal arts classes to increase my overall GPA as well?

Thanks so much!

I think you should not waste your time and money taking more classes. Many pharmacy schools look at your GPA but they also look at what you accomplish during the time you reapply. In my opinion, I think it would be better if you get some pharmacy experience or do some research at your school. You can even work at a health care facility (ex. hospital...) but taking more classes just make it seem as if your just a student with pretty much no experience. That is just my opinion 🙂

If I am you, I would apply this summer. Rather take the chance than waiting another year. The downside might be a few hundred dollars but the upside might be attending a pharmacy school next year. It is up to you.

Ever heard of WAMC? It stands for What Are My Chances. Check it out at here. Repost your query there, where it will get more responses. PharmApps is also a good resource for checking accepted GPA & PCAT data.

Aside from that,

  • Get a review book or take a course for the PCAT. The Kaplan book helped me jump from a 55 to a 76 composite, with a 90 in bio.
  • Volunteer in a hospital pharmacy or work in a pharmacy.
  • Go for a mock interview/career counseling, it really helped me.
  • Do some research, participate in a symposium, or work as a research assistant.
  • Do community service or start a project.
I'm sure that you do some of these things, but your post only reflects your GPA and coursework. You need to emphasize all these things, in your essay(s) and your interviews. It sounds foreign to self-promote like this, but you are your best and only promoter.
