I am graduating in May with a BS in Marketing and Management but am thinking I would like to pursue a masters in some kind of psychology. I am just not sure what my chances are of getting into a program if I only have a 3.2 gpa (haven't taken and GRE tests yet, still figuring this all out)

I like all aspects of it so still figuring out what I want to do but just wondering if there is anyone else out there who has gotten into a psych program (what it was and where) and what your undergraduate degree was?

I have a psychology minor and have taken behavioral psy, bio psy, development, child, social, and cognitive. I know I probably need stats but have only taken business stats, I've heard other people say its the same math different problem. Only research skills is from marketing research which uses a lot of stats too.

I haven't looked much but am thinking of I/O psych (western michigan) or School Counseling (spring arbor).

Any suggestions on how to go about doing this? It seems so hard to get any kind of an internship or see what I would prefer without a major in psychology 🙁

Thanks!!

some kind of psychology

I have no idea about psych master's programs (anyone from the Ph.D. board want to chime in?), but mental health counseling and social work programs will let you in with all kinds of crazy majors if you can show interest in your field via work, volunteering, and/or coursework. My B.A. is in English.

I think a psych minor is often good enough, but I think it's going to vary greatly on what type of "psych" graduate degree you want. I know a local MA in experimental with a neuro focus that has the 'minumum 15 psych credits with stats and an experimental course' as their cutoff. My counseling program asked for intro, developmental, stats and abnormal or personality, but also didn't require a full major. I know nothing about I/O.

So I have been looking more into some things and am even more confused! I want to do something that will give me the most career options.

First: Western Michigan offers I/O which if I did that I would just get a masters and try to do marketing research. However, I am unsure of my chances of getting in as it is usually 10/30 applicants accepted/applied.

Second: Western Michigan also offers a MA in Counseling Psychology or a MA in Education Counseling? What is the difference? What can you do with either?

Could you be a school or college counselor with the Counseling Psychology or do you have to go the Education route. I would love to be a school counselor but would hate to spend 2 years in a masters program when so many schools aren't hiring or are cutting back 🙁 But it also gives you a LLP certificate, which is mostly clinical but I feel like this could still help if I wanted to still do the market research route?

Third: I found that Trine University offers a masters in criminal justice with a concentration in forensic psychology. The program is pretty new and the website doesn't have too much information yet. But I find this aspect of psychology fascinating. What could I do with just this degree? Most of the other sources I've checked make it seem like you have to have a PhD do find a job in this? I also enjoy living in rural areas so would I have to move to a larger city to find a job in this?

I feel like Counseling Psychology would give me the most options, like I could do forensic, market research, or school counseling, and then pursue a masters more directly related to one of them, but maybe I am wrong?

My favorite psychology class was social psychology, I also like behavioral psychology. I also thought I could do counseling psychology masters then found a PhD for social psychology? What kinds of things could I do with a social psychology degree?
I love coaching and being in the school setting but also love the research aspect of psychology and the forensic psychology. I am still unsure about the clinical aspect.

Salary ranges for all of these are all over the place too. Other than I/O average salary being around 90k, I can't find much of a consensus on the others.

Sorry this is so long I'm just not sure which direction I should be going in.
