Hello everyone, I would really appreciate it if you could respond telling me my chances of getting in those schools I have listed. Heres my stats:

Junior at University of Kentucky
Biology major and Neuroscience minor
cGPA=3.1
sGPA=3.1
over 50 hours of volunteering in hospital emergency room and over 50 hours volunteering for muscular dystrophy association and gods pantry.
over 50 hours shadowing Podiatrist
Paid internship at UK Cardiovascular Research Center for 2 years
Currently doing research involving biomechanics and anatomy of lower extremity (plan on continuing that till I graduate)
Great LORs from podiatrist and Dean of Research of Uk and etc.

Haven't taken the MCAT yet, plan on taking it in the summer.

Chances...

Your chances rely heavily on your MCAT. The shadowing part will not make up for a particularly low MCAT (or GPA, in your case!).

Shoot for >24 (good distribution). and you should be good to go.

The fact that you been at the University of Kentucky for more than a year is good. 😉

What Maxillo said...don't bomb your MCAT and your golden. You have some sick EC's, I'm jealous. 😛

I would say Temple and Kent are good chances, DMU not really good. It is getting to the point now that DMU is getting pretty full. Never say never, but if you were planning on this cycle, I would rule them out. They only take 53 people last I checked so, statistically, there is less chance of you getting there. Early next cycle I think you could get into DMU with a strong MCAT (based off of my experience while there talking to people)

Contrast that with Kent and Temple with class sizes>100. Kent also took the people with the lowest stats last year. I have visited all three, I would have been happy with ANY of them (they were my top three) but decided on Temple in the end.

Of the 4 other people who interviewed at DMU with me in March, 3 of them were accepted.

Thanks for the responses!

I took the practice MCAT off of Kaplan's website and got a 21 -_- but i didn't study much for it though.

How would you all recommend studying for the MCAT without taking Kaplan classes because I'm going to be taking a heavy load spring semester and I'm taking summer classes?

Also do you think the research I am doing helps with admission at all?

remember OP said he would be taking the MCAT next SUMMER. Interviewing in June is a lot different than interviewing in March.

Also, do all podiatry schools look at all your MCAT scores like MD/DO?

Say you did really bad the first time but good the second time, is there a way for them to not see the first score you got, or do they see both scores?

Point is moot because I am reasonably sure he's asking what are his chances applying in the next cycle. After all, the OP mentioned being a junior this year and continuing research until graduation.

If you are a junior I say you're right on track, take the MCAT in September 2013 and apply in October. If you are getting 21 without studying, I think give yourself 2-3 months of solid preparation, and you'll def see an increase in your score. Good luck 🙂

When you release your scores, the results of every test you have taken will be sent to the application service (aamcas) and subsequently every school you designate. But most podiatry schools honestly won't care as long as you have one score that allows them to keep their averages at their usual levels.

I am personally of the belief that you should never purposefully schedule you MCAT for September. The MCAT is too important to wait until the last minute. If you take it in September and something/anything happens (death in family, dog does, busy w/ school, sickness, car trouble, etc etc) the next time you can take the MCAT is January.... Just a thought.
