I am going into my senior year and I'm about to graduate with a BS in biology. I've been freaking out about what I'm going to do after I graduate, I wanted to go to optometry school but my GPA isn't great. Right now it's around a 2.7. I haven't taken the OAT yet but should I bother? My GPA is quite low compared to the average for most schools in the US. I think it's too late to try to retake classes. I think if I did take the OAT and I got high scores I could get a really good LOR from an optometrist that I've been talking to for awhile. I was wondering if I could get some opinions? Thanks!

Also if I did apply are there any schools that are more lenient on GPA if I did well on the OAT and wrote a really good essay?

I know some schools uses a formula to determine the threshold of GPA/OAT, so you will need a really good OAT to balance out the GPA. Maybe wait a year and do some post-bacc studies? The following link shows the average of GPA/OAT of applicants for each school, you can use it as a reference to find out which ones are more lenient on GPA.
