Hey guys I'm a Canadian applicant who just wrote my Canadian DAT and was wondering if you could help chance me and give me some suggestions on potential US dental schools I should apply to. My stats are:

-200 clinical shadowing hours
-400 hours volunteering in Urgent care
-200 hours working with at-risk youth afterschool
-Part-time high school tutor (~8hrs/week not including travel and set up time) the past 3 years to help me pay a large chunk of my tuition
-3 years as president of not for profit club on campus
-0 Research

Overall GPA: 3.211
BCP: 3.244
Science GPA: 3.131
Non-Science: 3.375

DAT: 24AA 27TS 23PAT

any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you guys very much for all your time and assistance!

Your GPA is mediocre but that DAT score makes up for it. Overall your stats would give you a decent shot of acceptance if you were a US student, but since you're from Canada that might hurt you a bit.

I would still apply though because there's not much you can do at this point to improve your application. Apply broadly and do your research to make a list of schools that tend to take more Canadian students to help your chances. In the meantime, keep shadowing and volunteering, and try to get some research experience if you can.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely see if I can get some research experience in the next few months to try to strengthen my app

Is your GPA calculated the same way as AADSAS or is it the Canadian way?

Overall I think you look good, but it'll be A LOT cheaper if you go to the dental school in your province.

You've definitely got a good shot. My GPA is a bit higher, and I did a Masters, but your DAT is higher than mine. I was a Canadian applicant last year, received 6 interview invites, attended 4, received 4 acceptances. Stay positive, keep working hard and adding to your CV and you'll be fine.

If I'm applying to American schools I was under the impression I apply through adsas so I used the A+=4.3 scale. I know it would be a lot cheaper to do it in province but I don't have the gpa for it due to a poor showing in my first 2 years of UG

Thanks for your response, it really helped me feel a little more hopeful about my situation. Would you mind sharing what schools you applied to so I kinda have a starting point? Also did you ace the masters?

This is my first post on SDN, but was wondering to get feed back on my app.
Total gpa- 3.628
science gpa- 3.672
DAT AA-19 PAT-22
~300 shadowing experience, a bunch of ECs (including teaching, working with both children and adults, working with elderly, leadership roles, started a conference, a year worth of research with a publication coming up this summer)
- i do understand that my DAT is on the lower side, so i'll be applying this june first but also will be taking the american DAT to bring up my AA to atleast 21.
Let me know your thoughts.

Nice DAT! I wish I could get a score that high! Taking it this June!
I think you are well rounded and should be a great applicant. Good luck!

You should definitely apply to all the private schools that don't differentiate between international and national students like UDM, NYU, BU etc.
