depends on the specialty, the needs of the navy, your competitveness, etc

IM, FP, and peds are general easy to get esp compared to derm, em, ortho, opthal, etc.

the later you need to either get deferred for civlian training or do a gmo. If you search the numbers regarding navy em were discussed. If you really want to choose your specialty don't do HPSP.

There's no way of knowing...it changes every year.

AND...after the match...there is the interminable wait for whether an "alternate" will get to go train...because many people who match...are also the folks who are eligible to get out........

these folks then string the military along until they find out if they match in what they want in the civilian sector.....and if they do...then they resign....and the scramble for the alternates start....

YOU...as the applicant....HAVE NO WAY of knowing what your chances are.......

Are you already in Navy HPSP? If so, just email HMC Pelot and ask him. I just finished the match, and during the lead up to it, he was very open about telling us how many applications he had for each specialty, and even told us how many people listed each MTF as their first choice.

Unlike the civilian match, the number of applicants for each specialty doesn't seem to be a big secret.

He was great. even mentioned what he thought the board would do regarding deferals.

There is actually a drop dead date and it is before the civilian match.

This year it was mid January.

care to share the info?

the board already met for this year. He just looks at your file and what positions u request, and makes suggestions. Just like everyone else @ HPSP he knows the estimate number of civ deferals available. He told me the number and stated what he thought of my application. The number changes year to year and for each speciality.
