I attend an Ivy League college with a 3.3 gpa (a little low but competitive for my school I've been told). My MCAT score was only a 507 though (127/126/127/127). Florida resident.

I have had:
600 hours medically volunteering
100 Hours non medically volunteering
50 hours shadowing MD
3000 hours working during the summers (with the same job for 6 years and leadership roles)
400 hours working elsewhere during days off
Leadership positions in fraternity
Chemistry Honor Society

Unless you're URM or have some significant life story, MD schools are likely out of reach. It seems you may have some sort of story judging by how you worked 3000 hours during the summers?

Your best bets are probably your in-state Flordia schools...check MSAR but 3.3 in combination with a 507 is going to be tough, apply to a lot of places for sure.

I work roughly 100 hours per week each summer in a role requiring a lot of responsibility which I feel will be a great story for adcoms. I was thinking I should apply to all my instate schools, I am pretty set on MD. Are there any other schools you would suggest applying with my stats? I am not too worried about my GPA, as grade deflation as my school is well known and shouldn't be a problem, my worry is the lower MCAT. I've been told that a 507 will look roughly like a 30, is this true?

Between 29 and 30. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...centile-comparison-conversion-tables.1143689/

Unfortunately, I doubt that a 3.3 from your school will be seen as no "problem." Your MCAT is right between a 29 and a 30; in cases of schools were GPAs are deflated, I would think that the MCAT (sort of like an equalizer) is looked at to see whether your GPA really is a matter of deflation. Your MCAT is "consistent" with your GPA so no, I don't think your GPA is something to not be worried about.

Looking at the FL schools, your stats are at or (in more cases than not) below the 10th percentile which is usually the students that have some extraordinary circumstances. Your ECs are average at best and do not make up for the subpar stats. Based solely on stats, your best bet may be Florida State Uni where your MCAT is around the median and GPA below 10th percentile. You definitely need to apply to several DO; you are not in a position to be "set" on MD if you want to be a physician. Think about it wisely, including possibly delaying your app.

No one cares about your school. Be realistic. A 3.3 is a 3.3. Sorry to be the one to tell you but if you want to be successful you have to walk into this world with your eyes wide on. I hope your volunteer or work is with the underserved, you will need to show that as part of your app.

I would guess your leadership and experiences section looks full, good job. Many people struggle in that area but it looks like you have worked hard for a long time on a variety of different things. IMO, you either need to do a DIY postbac, do a SMP, or do significantly better on the MCAT (knowing that the two scores will be averaged most everywhere).

I would not see your app being successful in MD schools this year. Better to wait a year and have your first cycle be really successful! GL, if you are real with your situation you can be very successful, but don't ever pretend your app is something other than what it is! I learned that the hard way the first time, so I am saying this with the kindest intentions. You can do this with some patience.

What should I shoot for if I were to retake the MCAT? Would a 510 be enough or would I be looking at more like a 515 that I'd need?
