Hey here are my numbers

28 Q (V 10 P 9 B 9) 🙁 🙁 🙁
not happy with that score, will retake, i'm applying for the 2010 cycle.

undergrad GPA- 3.8 overall
(but took chem 2 and physics 1 at community college) and only got an AA

Currently finishing up PharmD (yes I know I am in pharmacy school and will apply to medical school to hopefully matriculate the fall following graduation)

GPA 4.0 (first 2 years), i'm in my 3rd year and that 4.0 will not hold but hopefully i can still salvage a cumulative 3.7

EC-
typical shadowing, volunteering in ER
camp counselor-mentored minority high school students and/or students from rural neighborhoods and introduced them to various healthcare professions (done through minority affairs office at the UF college of medicine)
summer research- pharmacogenomics of an antiepileptic drug
medical mission trip to costa rica- spring break
mentored other pharmacy students
held VP position x 2 years in a pharmacy student organization
some other things here and there but i think i hit the main points

opinions please??
i feel like the pharmacy degree may either not be a factor or a hinderence

and then the sub average mcat score...so i pray that i can do better when i retake

Thanks

Depending on your state of residency, you're actually in pretty good shape. Your undergrad GPA is great, and your ECs are very solid, as it seems you have all the bases (clinical, research, volunteerism, leadership) covered; I'm not at all sure how your pharm degree could be seen as a hindrance and in fact it seems it should go down as a strong "EC".

I certainly recommend retaking the MCAT, but with your record, I wouldn't be shocked to see you get an acceptance or two from lower-tier schools even if you didn't improve much from the 28. If you could get it up to the 32-34 range, I really think you become competitive for some of the really high selectivity schools out there.

In any case, good luck to you for next cycle!

Whether the PharmD degree will help or hinder will hinge on your Personal Statement and the reason why you're jumping ship career-wise. It's best to have a good reason why both degrees will further your life-time goals. Hint: don't say choosing pharmacy school was a big mistake for any reason.

There's a reasonable chance you could get an admission with your current MCAT score, but no guarantees. I agree it's best to maximize your chances by retaking if you think you can get at least two more points.

thanks for all the input thus far. I agree, I need to retake but naturally I need to do at least 2 points better when I do retake. I don't have a lot of time in my schedule to really study but I'm looking at maybe retaking in May 2009 or so for the 2010 cycle .

also, in regards to pharmacy school, i definately won't portray wanting to go to another because i'm unhappy with what i have now. In fact, i love pharmacy, but it's through pharmacy school (the coursework and clinical exposure) that I realized what role I want to play in providing healthcare, mainly diagnosing patients. anyhow, thanks for the feedeback I really appreciate it.

I know numbers aren't everything but I'm SO depressed about that stupid 28, because I'm scared I can't do better...but maybe i'll do better 2nd try and it will feel tha tmuch more sweet.
