Any wisdom would be great!

Overall GPA: 3.95
Science GPA: 4.0

AA: 17
PAT: 16

I also have worked as a dental assistant for two years. I am treasurer of Tri-Beta, a chemistry lead lab assistant, workshop and SI leader for organic chem (both types of tutoring)

I know my DAT scores are a little low, but I was hoping my high GPA, experience and leadership roles would offset. What do you think?

You ought to just apply you never know what could happen.

With plenty of time left before your application needs to be in you have no excuse not to retake the DAT. Fact of the matter is if you don't retake you are shooting yourself in the foot. Anything scores less than a 17 especially in the sciences, will likely get your application tossed from many schools.

I don't personally know any adcom members, but I'm inclined to think that your numbers would raise a big red flag (and not in a good way).

I'd bet their thoughts are going to be something along the lines of... "how is it that someone can pull off a near perfect GPA and perfect science GPA, but do so badly on the DAT?"

your DAT scores aren't good at all... no offense intended, just trying to inject a shot of reality. it's no secret that getting into D school is becoming drastically more competitive these days, and i don't think your stellar GPA will be enough to make adcoms overlook your DAT scores.

like someone else said... a retake is definitely needed. with the way that you performed in classes, there's no reason that you can't achieve 20+ scores on each section of the DAT. maybe it's just a matter of more time and some test-taking strategy.

also, why would you sell yourself short and apply with the mindset of "well, with my DAT scores, i'll give it a shot and hope i'll get in somewhere"? if you re-took and got a 20-21+ AA (with scores of 20 & above in other sections), with the combo of your GPA, activities, and hopefully good LORs, you'll be able to pick your school of choice from a list that contains some of the best dental programs in the nation. a little more effort now will pay off big for you in the not-so-distant future... trust me.

best of luck...

I agree, having a GPA that is that high and scoring that low on the DAT really calls into question the difficulty of your undergrad program, or at the very least your ability to take a standardized exam. If I were you I would retake the DAT and get at least 18s across the board.

Mando DAT retake FTW!

Study your @$$ off for like 2 months straight then retake it. If you get the same score then you would prob have a real hard time in DS anyhoo.
