What are my chances of getting into an allopathic medical school with a cGPA and sGPA of 3.4? MCAT was 33S (VR=10,BS=11,PS=12). One thing to note is that my GPA has been steadily decreasing. Will medical schools look down on that? I feel my EC's are strong (leadership, community service, clinical experience, and research are all there) and am really concerned about the gpa. Thanks!

Your GPA is below average, but your MCAT score is above. ECs seem average/good. What is your home state?

California. I was born in Texas..think that's enough for a Texas school to take me?

There are a few Texas schools that are OOS friendly, and the fact that you have ties to Texas might help. Check out the MSAR (or search for DataWhore's post). You may have trouble with the UCs with your GPA, but it's worth a shot, especially since their secondaries are screened. Otherwise, apply broadly to private schools and OOS-friendly schools (Temple, MCW, RFU, NYMC, SLU, Drexel, Penn State, GWU, Jefferson, Albany, the SUNYs, Loyola, U Illinios, Creighton, Tulane, etc).

recommend any schools to add or take off?

i would trim off the top. NYU, WashU, Penn, Stanford, Mich, and Pitt has very high applicant statistics. Mizz is an IS school, I believe. I would add all the Texas schools. Apply broadly, and you have a shot.

how you gone steal my screen name?

If you have the money for that, go for it. I second removing Mizzou and adding some Texas schools, though.

I know schools love the upward trend in gpa, but how unfavorably does a downward trend look? i had one bad summer school grade and a disaster quarter this past fall...

should i add any DO schools? if yes, what are some good DO schools?

My situation was similar but my MCAT was low and GPA was high....I got into 3 schools including my top choice....my app was not complete until almost all the deadlines. Apply early and I think you will be fine 🙂 but that is just my .02
