Hey!
Are there any stats in terms of how many applicant programs interview vs how far they go down their rank list in match?

Any stats of likelihood of matching in top 5?

I've looked at the NRMP stats. I just find them a little hard to interpret.

Any insight would be great.

Take a look at resultsanddata2010, page 28. It has a table showing the % matched to 1st-4th, >4th spot, and unmatched for US seniors and Independent applicants. In summary (for US seniors):

1st 52.7%
2nd 15.4%
3rd 9.2%
4th 5.3%
>4th 11.6%
Unmatched 5.9%

So, ~77% match in their top 3, 17% match spot 4+, and 6% don't match at all.

In my mind 17% isn't a negligible number, so though I definitely have my favorites, I am try to make peace with all the places on my list - you just never know.
