I will graduate from Stanford this spring with a GPA of 3.0. I had decent DAT scores: 22 academic, 21 PAT. My low GPA is largely a result of not studying my freshman and first semester sophomore year, however I have taken upper level courses since and done much better. But, it is also because there isn't much grade inflation here and there are alot of really intelligent people who did study. Do they take into account the difficulty of the school that you went to for undergrad? I also shadowed an oral surgeon this summer. I really want to go home and go to UCLA. Does anyone know what my chances may be? Is it a lost cause because of my GPA?

Once again, for the record, 22/21 is an excellent score, not just "decent." And if memory serves, UOP can be pretty forgiving on GPA, particularly if you took a great DAT.

You would be on the border for UCLA. Attending Stanford will help your situation. But a 3.0 is a 3.0.

Maybe we can talk more about your situation, as I too applied from Stanford. I applied back in 2002 (very late, I might add), with a 3.4 and an average academic DAT of 26. I got into UCLA (though I did not choose to attend).

i did not go to ucla mostly because of 1) personal reasons...a few things in my life at the time directed me towards staying in the sf bay area 2) easier to get patients in my current school

actually, in the end, it wasn't that much of an educated choice. you may find that as well when you make your decision. when it comes down to it, it's a gut feeling. it's a nebulous thing to describe, but come decision-making, it'll direct you.
