I am going to apply to Podiatry schools in early August. I have a 2.97 sGPA. A 3.17 cGPA. I received a 24 O on my mcat (9 bio, 8 phys, 7 verb). I have a letter of recommendation from a DPM. I have done research for over three years and have had my work presented at national conferences. I have also volunteered in the ICU of my hospital for a year. Any advice for me or input on my chances would be greatly appreciated because I know my GPA's are lower than average and my MCAT isn't great.

Your gpa is a bit on the lower side. Your MCAT seems fine. EC looks good and you have shadowed a DPM (hopefully you're certain about walking this path). You're in good shape. Although I have no clue how competitive pod admissions will become this cycle but I think you have a good chance. Good luck 👍

Your profile says that you are premed...don't apply to pod school as a back up if your heart is not on it. You can repair your GPA and retake the mcat if you want to become a doctor (DO) since they have grade replacement. A combination of 3.3+ and 27 mcat would put you in the competitive arena for DO.

I think we should stop assuming things about applicants.I know what you are saying but the fact is his stats are good enough to get him in and he could be the next great podiatrist of the future. We, including myself, have been quick to jump on pre-med, pre-dent, etc. about "making sure this is for you." As you can see, the applicant shadowed a DPM already so I'm pretty sure he knows if this is for him or not. Remember, podiatry is a medical specialty and there are many docs doing things because they did not match into there dream specialty. Not only are they in other specialties but are excelling in them. To answer the OPs questin, you should be able to get into any school you apply to as long as you apply earlier in the cycle (Aug-OCT).

Temperature, I made the profile when I wasn't sure what I wanted to do.... but yes I have shadowed a DPM for many hours in his practice and shadowed him as he did rounds in the hospital and I enjoyed it very much. I'm not sure how much this will help me but I also have an upward trend. My first semester of college I received a 2.4 and ever since then my GPA has been going up. Thank you for the advice RATM2010, I will try to apply as soon as possible. Also, I forgot to mention I am retaking the MCAT August 5th so I can strengthen my application and maybe hopefully get some scholarship money if I do well enough on it.

In regards to free money, the obsticle is the GPA as most schools like at least a 3.0 sci GPA and a 3.3 cGPA min. The mcat min is somewhere around >23.

edit: if your school considers mcat in scholarship consideration

I also have a question about my application since it opens up in a week. I was wondering if I should tell the schools that I am retaking the MCAT or not? I ask this because I know my stats are not very great and the sooner my app is looked at the better but if I were to mark that I am retaking it would they hold off looking at my app until the results were in? (Which wouldn't be until the middle of September). Any input on what would be best for me is appreciated.

Apply as soon as the cycle opens.

I think you will get a few interviews with your current MCAT.

You are good. The application cycle is slow in the start. it takes a few weeks for aacpmas to do their thing. Then you start getting intervie invites. You get to choose when to interview. Obviously choose an interview date post your new score if you want that on record. Keep in mind, you may do worse (<24) . However, a 24 can and should get you into any of the schools. Again, the only thing hurting you is sci GPA and only for scholarship money. THERE IS NO NEED TO RETAKE THE MCAT!!!!

Just wanted to update a little. I completed and turned in my app today. I didn't end up taking the MCAT again. My GPA's were a little different after computing them on the AACPM. I have a 3.16 cGPA and a 2.88 sGPA. (Not including gerontology) With gerontology it is a 2.97. At my university gerontology is not part of the social sciences so I was confused on that. I wrote a good personal statement and had numerous extra curricular activities. I also had a good upward trend: My gpa's earned each year were, Freshman 2.689 GPA, Sophomore 3.268 GPA, and Junior 3.404 GPA. Hopefully with the changes to my science GPA my chances aren't hurt too much. I still have the 24O on my MCAT.
