3.59 overall - Accounting Major (Pass/Fail Summer school classes hurt GPA)
3.74 science


Division I college athlete
30 hours of shadowing in rural setting
60 hours of volunteering... and counting
no research
multiple leadership positions
3 years as Public Accountant
very good references

Desire to go into rural family practice medicine after few years in military medicine.

What are my chances ?

Your stats are above the bottom tenth percentile for both of your states' schools, with your sGPA being very good, but I'm concerned that you have so little volunteering and don't even mention clinical experience. Further, your shadowing is on the skimpy side and unless you come from a rural area and have other rural experiences, doesn't support an interest in rural medicine very well. Hopefully, you plan to work on these holes in your application before you apply. If you think there's any chance of a higher MCAT score, you might consider a retake. Otherwise, maybe add some DO schools to your list.
 
You're fine for DO schools, but the relatively low hours in volunteer work will hurt you once the AdCom meets to determine your fate. MCAT is not high enough for MD schools; you'll need to get over the 10/10/10 bar.
