Hi,

My resume is pretty weak, I understand that, but are my chances at getting in at any DO school?

I am a rising senior at George Washington University. I am taking a gap year.
cGPA 3.61 (I had around a 3.95 junior year)

sGpa ~3.40

No MCAT yet

My softs are really poor...my only experience really is 8 hours/ week one semester in GWU's ER enrolling patients in clinical studies as part of a clinical research class.

Vice-president of my fraternity (not sure if worth putting in an application)

I've worked for a local police department as a "Town Ranger" the past two summers

I am shadowing a doctor in DC in the fall.

I am taking an EMT class second semester and will be joining a local EMS during gap year. This EMT class will also include hospital shifts.

I think you look quite strong for DO schools academically. A word of warning: many DO schools require shadowing experience under a DO doc.

As for ECs, I think you definitely need a boost. You need volunteering experience asap. If you can get in at least a hundred hours or something in your gap year, it would be good. I have a little over 250 and I still feel nervous. I think the VP position is good; it shows leadership. I personally included the fact that I'm an Eagle Scout (I received the rank in college and it means a great deal to me) which I think might be dismissed by some as being "fluff". Some more research experience would be good too.

I went to GW and took that EMT course as well. Is Wanda still teaching? Seriously, don't get on her bad side. Just try to make her laugh or something and show interest or she will make the class horrible for you. Tough as a nail.

Many suggest you get one. Few actually require.

Numbers are fine, but you really need to get some ECs in.. How do we know you're actually going to like being around sick and injured people????
