Hello everyone, I was hoping you all could give me insight on my chances of dental school admission.

oGPA - 3.14
sGPA - 3.26
BCP GPA (all prereqs plus biochem, physiology, a few others) - 3.66

20 AA, 20 TS, 20 PAT

NY Resident
35 hours shadowing

Thanks! let me know if you need any more information to make an assessment.

Depends on what your reading score is. If it is a 17 or below, take it again if you are relying upon east coast schools. Also, try to get out there and engage in more shadowing experience. You may also want to consider taking a few more courses to boost your GPA - you will need it! If I were you I would take the DAT over to bring it up to a 22+ since the GPA is low to help balance the application, but that is just my approach.

Might get you into NYU.

Hm, Maybe considering retaking the DAT. Don't get me wrong, I got a 20AA as well. But if you want confidence in the application cycle, a 22+ may be warranted.

Dang, how do you have a significantly higher BCP than overall gpa? Are you, by any chance, a math major/engineer? You definitely need more shadowing and a slightly higher overall gpa.

+1. If you apply broadly and early, your stats might warrant you some interviews. But like the above poster said, you will need more shadowing and dental related experience.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate it.

I wouldn't touch $400k of tuition/living expenses with a stick :scared: and with my grades, HPSP doesn't seem like a viable option.

Neither, non-science undergrad. All the pre-reqs and bios were taken post-bacc, straight A's in gchem, ochem, physics, mostly A's in bios, a couple B's in upper levels. My low oGPA and sGPA are due to a D- I got in an EMT class, which I retook and failed in undergrad. I have no excuse for my poor grades in the class, I was unmotivated and didn't want to go to class or study. There is one other AF on my transcript in a non-science class. It was a week long trip at the end of the semester, which I thought I had dropped, but hadn't. I didn't go on the trip and received the AF. I retook the "class" and got an A-, unfortunately AADSAS doesn't have grade replacement. Nearly everything else on my record are B's and A's. These blemishes were over 5 years ago, and I'm hoping adcoms can look beyond mistakes of my past and focus on my current successes.

Thanks, I'll work on that this semester before I apply in June.

How about your other ECs? Your DAT is considered competitive as 20 is just above the average score. Your GPA is fine (BCP-wise). If you have a good load of ECs to back you up as well as other experiences in dentistry that is more than just shadowing (or more hours of shadowing), you won't even have to retake your DAT. Save the money, and focus on the other aspects of the applications, because in the end, its not only about the numbers. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I do have many ECs, but few dental related experiences. At this point, with so many credit hours, boosting my GPA will be a fruitless effort. The only thing I have to gain at this point from more post-bacc is exposure to the material, and providing more evidence that I can hack it in upper level biology classes. Over the next few months, I will devote myself to volunteering in a clinic nearby, and gaining 70+ more shadowing hours.

Any other suggestions on how to strengthen my app before June? Anyone else gotten in with similar stats?

Last bump, could really use some advice..
