Hello my fellow SDNer's, I have a question and need your most honest and helpful advice. I am currently enrolled to take the Mcat on the 26th of August. However, I feel like I do not have the adequate time to successfully study for this exam by the 26th. I want to be able to take a practice test per day and not multiple practice tests on the same day. I feel that if I had an extra week or two it would benefit me very well. My question is if I changed the test date from August 26th to September 6 would I be at a great disadvantage when applying for the 09 fall cycle? I will only be applying to D.O. schools. I will have all the secondaries completed by the time my scores are posted. Any input is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You're talking about a week and a half? I can't see it making a difference in timing, better to be more prepared.

what if I took the mcat in january? Is it still possible to get in, if i had my application all filled out?

Some schools accept the January MCAT while others do not. Look up the info for each of the schools you are interested here.

You know, I think most people feel that they are unprepared or not ready or "I could do better If I had more time" when they get close to the test date. Taking it in Aug or Sept probably won't make much of a difference. Either way good luck!

Changing the date a week isn't really going to help if you feel really unprepared. I changed my date from June until August last year and it helped a lot, although I still didn't do that great. Have you taken any practice tests? I would start from there and see how you do.

Either way it is late. If it is an emotional thing that you need that week to FEEL more prepared then go for it. If you honestly think you're going to BE more prepared, then you're probably lying to yourself.

well I just have 10+ cbt test that I want to be able to go over by the time I take the test. I've recently taken the GS1-GS4 and have been getting an average score of 29-30. I want to be able to take the aamc ones too. I just feel that taking 2 cbt test in a day can be a lil bit overwhelming considering my circumstances.

Take a couple aamc ones. I found the gold standard ones a waste of time. A 30 is solid on those horrible things though. I never got above a 30 on them and I was getting 37s on aamc.

the GS-CBT are harder really? I just took the physical science section for the GS4 and scored a 9. Thought it was more difficult than the previous ones. I will probably purchase a few AAMC ones and see how it compares.

They are just poorly written and nothing like the actual thing to me. One out of every 3 or 4 passages resembles a real mcat one to me. hell, there was a passage with batman and the joker on a GS...
