I'm taking a molecular biology course right now and it's fairly difficult. I'm worried that I might not do so well (B-C range, probably closer to C). However, if I drop it I will only be taking 3 classes (plus research credit). Do you think it is better to change it to P/F, just drop it, or stick with a possibly bad grade? How bad will taking molecular biology P/F look? By the way, if I take it P/F I will just have to end up taking another bio class for my major, so it's not such a big deal on my undergraduate requirement side of things.

Any opinions? I have until Friday to decide and help would be appreciated!

If I was going to get a B, I would stay
If I was going to get a C, I would drop/get a W
If it was going to take more points than it's worth and still hover between a B and C, I would drop it.

Will you get a W right now or not? It also depends on your gpa. If you have around a 3.5 or something, a C would definitely not do you any favors. If you have closer to a 4.0, then you can take the hit. Some schools (like USC) require molecular bio as a prereq and as I understand, require that class to be taken with a grade (you can substitute this class with a something else though, check their site)

Either way, good luck

Thanks for the reply. I have until Friday to change to p/f. I have another month to drop it without a W on my transcript. I think if I put a lot of time in, I can get a B.

Do you know any other schools that require it?

I could always drop it and take it next semester. I guess my question is what looks worse: taking molecular bio p/f, taking only 3 classes, or getting a B?

If you use the search button, I'm sure you can find some threads about P/F and how it looks to medical schools because I'm really not sure. How many W's do you have right now and what year are you? If this would be your first W and you're a sophomore or older then I'd take the W because a C is a crazy hit to your GPA now matter what it is.

If you're a freshman then I'd have my reservations simply because you don't want to have a string of W's on your transcript and if you're already a first year and taking a W, you may end up taking more later on and its a bad habit to develop.

I won't get a W on my transcript. My school is pretty nice and gives us until a few weeks before finals to drop a class without any consequences.

:wow: I really really really wish I did undergrad at your school lol

If that's the case then like another poster said, if there's a chance you will be getting a C then drop it. I never got a C in undergrad but I got a few B/B- here and there and everyday I want to slap myself because my GPA suffered more than I thought it would have, I can only imagine a C.. I would definitely drop.

Ok, I think I'm going to hold out until the last minute and see what my grade is then. I guess the overall sentiment is that a p/f isn't worth it then? How bad is only taking 3 classes (plus research credit)?
