FA (pg 498) states that when on inhaled anesthetics like methoxyflurane or halothane:
- INCREASE in cerebral blood flow/DECREASE in metabolic demand
- On the other hand (FA pg 498), barbiturates DECREASE cerebral blood flow

Why is that? It seems I don't have the concept down. I would have thought that there would be a decrease in blood flow if less metabolic demand. Any explanation would be helpful, thanks!

The MOA of inhaled anesthetics is unknown, so they haven't been able to explain it other than cerebral blood flow is not directly regulated by metabolic demand.
