I got a transfer request for a Medicare patient’s test strips and the pharmacist said they could take it if I faxed them a copy of the original Rx. Is this some new rule or clarification?

You are not allowed to transfer prescriptions for diabetic supplies and bill Part B. It is stated directly on Medicare.gov. Knowingly, doing so is considered Medicare fraud. Most pharmacists are unaware of this. A CVS rph once threatened to whistleblow us because he refused to transfer and floater kept on insisting.

MD are not allowed to phone in diabetic supplies either.I make MD fax, write or ERX.

Like what previous posters said. He or she wants that fax image and will cut of image of prescription and treat it as an original prescription. You can actually report them to Medicare for this.

Medicare doesn't believe in verbal anything. If it's not written on the official prescription by the doctor, the pharmacist probably made it up and is committing fraud.

Because of widespread Medicare fraud years ago. Any pharmacy can make millions by faking "phone in' rx for diabetic and medical supplies etc and document they received in voicemail. Only way to know is medicare will have to track down doctor and ask. It's too much work for Medicare, so they flat out say no verbal rx.

I'd assume they are ignorant of the law. Or to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they just want to see what the prescription is, so when they call the doctor to get a new prescription, they will know what they are looking for.
