Hey,

I got an interview at UMich for 10/21 but am hosting a show for the club I am president for on this day. Is this a valid excuse to push my interview back? Will this be looked down upon by UoM?

If you need to reschedule, just give them a call. Can't speak for UMich specifically but they are generally very accommodating and won't even ask for your reason of rescheduling.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Several dental schools have admissions committees that meet weekly to decide who to accept/reject. They just don't release these decisions until Dec. 1., but it truly is rolling admissions.

If Michigan's admissions committee meets weekly (after each group of interviewees) to decide who to accept, then there will be fewer seats available for the same interview group size if he interviews at a later date = it could be potentially harder to get in.

I interviewed at Umich and they don't decide whose accepted until all pre-december interviews are complete so whether you interview earlier or later, as long as its pre-december it will not make a difference. With that being said, Umich has a very structured way of sending interviews so they may not be able to accommodate you

Look, I think people over react on how admissions committees look at stuff. Just call and ask. Tell them you have a situation and if you can reschedule. I am not saying they will let you or if they will not. You are entering a professional school, it isn't scary, wrong, or bad if you have a prior obligation. Your life isn't 10000% dentistry, dentistry is part of your life.

I know UConn & Columbia do it in a rolling admissions manner (i.e. admissions officers meet weekly).
