So, I am changing jobs and I am trying to depart on good terms with my group. I gave my 90-day notice and it's coming to an end in about a week. Interestingly, I come to find out that the billing company we use was not notified of my departure (compliance flags for billing) and there are literally zero plans to fill the vacated role as medical director for the 5 CLIAs I am covering. I raised these concerns with our leadership and it appears they are trying to scramble to find replacements. I am 5 days away from leaving and none of the facilities have sent CMS/CLIA the paperwork to remove me as medical director nor have they made any effort to contact the LIS team to remove my name from the headers. My med-mal expires soon as well.
I know that CMS/CLIA allows some sort of grace period to find a new medical director for a facility and operations could continue to run as normal (or am I mistaken about that?). If the paperwork is submitted to CMS/CLIA prior to my official departure, is that enough to ensure that my role as medical director for the facilities I was covering have been officially terminated? I don't want to have a scenario in which I am still medical director on record without proper authorization (and no liability coverage).
