Hello all!

I've looked at the traffic laws on AAMC's website, (https://www.aamc.org/download/364264/data/2014trafficrules.pdf), but this is a question I want to be absolutely, explicitly certain about.

I am very lucky and thrilled to have been accepted into medical school a couple of days ago. This is a school I'd be honored to go to, but I am still waiting to hear back from other choices. It is my only acceptance so far.

My email says I have two weeks to accept their offer. BUT, hypothetically somewhere down the line, say I get accepted into a medical school I'd rather go to for one reason or another. If I accept my offer to the one I am CURRENTLY accepted into, can I change my mind until May 15th (or April 30th? Still not terribly clear on that)?

In other words, can I hold multiple acceptances with impunity until Mid 2016?
That "Accept" button looks awfully tempting right now, but I want to absolutely make sure I have a clear picture before I do anything.

Thanks!

You can hold multiple acceptances until April 30th and then afterwards can still hypothetically withdraw and attend another school if you receive an offer, but you'll lose some money.

Almost all MD schools will refund a down payment if you withdraw from them before April 30 (check MSAR for policies). In the meantime, hold as many acceptances as you wish while you wait on financial offers, research the institutions more thoroughly, check out housing safety and cost, make a second visit, etc.

After April 30, you can only hold one acceptance and must have released the others. Even then you can accept waitlist offers, but as mentioned, you will not get any more refunds.

Yes. This is what I experienced. I had to deposit at each MD SOM within a couple of weeks of acceptance, but then I had to make my final decision by the April deadline. Then I got my deposits back from the declined schools.

BTW....be sure to WAIT until that April date to finally decide if you hold multiple acceptances. Give your schools time to offer merit.
