Changing state of residence after application verification

Kind of an odd situation, I grew up in Illinois and have always been a resident there despite attending school in Maryland and living there after school for a year. I have just moved to Minnesota for a job at the UM Medical center and will be living in Minneapolis. At the time of move I also applied for medical school and was already verified. I don't plan on changing residency status but what would happen should change from Illinois to Minnesota? Would it be a problem.

From a fellow (re)applicant, I changed my current and permanent address as well as state of legal residency mid-way through the cycle as I moved and things changed. I emailed all med schools at which I was still under consideration to make them aware of the change.

I was then informed I didn't really have to email them, that they would see this change on AMCAS. Looking back I probably would've only emailed the med schools that were directly involved (school in former state of residence and school in new state).

You can only edit certain parts of AMCAS after it's been verified and state/county of legal residence is one of these...current and permanent address is another. Hope this helps!

@hopefuldr_12 yes that is exactly what I was looking for thank you for the help.

@gonnif i will have to remember that. The reason I had the question was because I'm hoping to get to know the U Minnesota medical school professors as part of my job and changing residencies would give me a better chance of getting in there. On the other hand Southern Illinois and U of Illinois Chicago are easier schools to get into than UM so my chances would be higher there. Thank you for the help.

You can make a case on secondaries for ties to any state that you may have. Dont be show about discussing your time at UM on the secondary in a manner that suggest you may put down roots there.

This is the same advice I had from my pre-med advisor. She said that although my home state was no longer my state of residence (I was abroad for ~five years, and no longer had any documentation valid in the state), if I was interested in that school or the schools in the state I attended Uni, I could certainly make a case for having strong ties to both places. I didn't apply to any of the above in the end, but I wanted to reinforce this comment as being given by what I perceive to be an extremely reliable pre-health professions department.

Thank you for the response. I ended up applying to the Illinois state schools after growing up there for 18 years, U of Maryland after spending 5 years there, and U Minnesota now that Im living there so that makes me feel better about spending the money on applications there. Much appreciated!
