Chapman DPT Acceptance

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
no...did you get accepted?

I haven't heard a peep from them. Rumor has it they are waiting until Fall grades come in, but who knows!

Haven't heard from Chapman either!

haven't heard a peep since the last mailing they sent me re: financial aide. did you guys recieve a bunch of mailings from chapman as well? (ie. program info, student log in info, confirmation of application recieved)

Was the financial aid info with the log-in information? I have not heard or received anything from them since receiving the web advisor information.

nothing yet. this waiting game blows!!

Finally got an email, but it's in regards to my GRE scores not being officially received...great. Hope this doesn't hurt me

Hi guys, im actually interested in applying to Chapman and since you guys have already applied... im wondering if you can provide some insight into the prerequisites for me! I read on another thread that there was some issues with the physics series that they require... does the physics series need to be calculus based? im taking mostly all of the prereqs at a cc and there is a physics series titled... physics for life sciences I and II, physics for life sciences with calculus I and II, and there is also general physics I and II... i looked at westerns requirements and they allow the first option, but i just wanted to know what your experiences were in this specific prereq for chapman. Also what constitutes a human behaviour class? Thanks in advance!

Just got the acceptance email from Serena today! So excited!!!

This waiting game sucks!!

Same here... where else did you apply to dalingil?

I'm hoping for good news for everyone! When I spoke with Serena a couple weeks ago she said that if you had pre req gpa and gre scores near or above their early decision required scores then you stood a decent chance. And yes, the waiting game is definitely horrible but keep an eye out for an email and hopefully good news!

Look at my post from above. I only applied to schools in Cali. I wish us both good luck. If I hear anything, I'll post it here.

For the people offered admission today: 1. Congrats!!! And 2. Did you have fall grades in progress at the time of application?

congrats! keeping my fingers crossed for some luck on my side! i wonder when they will send out wait list information?

It changed the following morning on webadvisor and then it gave me the option to make the deposit and yeah I still had fall classes to take that I submitted to PTCAS and sent to Serena directly

If you don't mind me asking, is the pre-req gpa you are posting the PTCAS calculated version or the pgpa that Chapman would use. Since Chapman does not use all the same
courses as PTCAS to calculate it. btw Congrats!

3.9 was my PTCAS reported pre req GPA, I haven't done the exact calculation for what it would have been for Chapman not including any sort of english composition course and no second upper division bio course but it would be closer to a 3.8-3.85ish I think. Hope that helps!

Thanks. Either way that pgpa is awesome. The reason I asked is because
My pgpa for PTCAS is 3.72, but for chapman it's 3.8ish. There are just so many different way to calc pgpa for different schools based on their specific prereq course requitement.
Trying to gauge my chances of acceptance based on chapmans Cgpa and pgpa procedure and now yours since you got in. They say acceptances are on rolling basis, when did you submit your AU?

this is a little late, but when on earth did we get our webadvisor information? am i the only one that completely did not get it? ive checked every email and only received a couple things in the mail...

Maybe back in early November? Not entirely sure, but that sounds about right.

Webadvisor information came in the mail around October for me. I have been using this to log into the portal to check application status, tests, transcripts info, etc. I would email them to try and get this information for your Webadvisor

Is this a PTCAS thing or only a Chapman thing? I also haven't heard anything about Webadvisor and I sent in my applications in October. Who do you think I should call about this?

This is a Chapman thing. I would call Serena Healey tomorrow to make sure they have actually received everything and are processing your application. Best of luck

Just received an acceptance email... Maybe more are going out today!

Congratulations! I hope they are sending more out. Would you mind sharing your stats and when did you complete your academic update/application. I imagine the may be reveiwing our applications in the order with which they received the final documents ( transcripts etc).

Congrats! I haven't received anything from them since their financial aid packet... 🙁

Congrats to those who got in! Chapman is my top choice but haven't heard anything yet.....

Congrats to everyone who got in so far ! I got an email the other day saying they are still in the process of sending acceptances out, but the class is almost full. Still haven't heard anything other than that. Fingers crossed!

I got in to Chapman, but am going to decline. Open space for someone else! 🙂

Considering the number of applicants I feel as though its easy to get overlooked by some of the admissions personnel who are glancing at stats endlessly.

Does anybody have any insight as to how Chapman's Waitlist is handled? By number? Tiers?

Thanks.

Does anybody have any insight as to how Chapman's Waitlist is handled? By number? Tiers?

Thanks.

I called Serena Healey and inquired about the waitlist. She said it is not ranked, but tiered into a top middle and bottom third. She said she can't tell me which third I am in on the waitlist but if I call back in a couple weeks she will have a better sense of where each student is because they will have completed the waitlist.
I'm not getting my hopes up with being placed on the waitlist because she said that the class is almost full, so there are only a few spots that would potentially be open. Also I asked how many people are placed on the waitlist and she said that there was no set number...anyone who is qualified for the program gets placed on the waitlist. I imagine a lot of applicants are qualified...so the chances don't seem that great.

I mailed my "decline" offer letter yesterday!
Someone's going to get my spot. =)
Best of luck!!

Just got wait listed at Chapman, which I am stoked about... I did not think I had a pray at even getting wait listed. Now if every one that already got accepted would go to another school... JK but seriously I can hope right?[/]

Congrats, but damn this is frustrating because I have not heard anything at all other than the blanket emails. Did you get an email telling you? Or an actual letter.

I called Serena and she said that they are continuing to send out email notices about waitlist or decline... so if we haven't heard yet, we just continue to wait.

Has anyone heard anything from Chapman lately? I havent heard anything back from them yet...I know I'm being a little presumptuous, but I think my stats are comparable to those who have been accepted. Any thoughts? My stats are:

University: San Diego State University
Major: Kinesiology: Pre-PT
Overall GPA: 3.82
Pre-Req GPA: 3.93
GRE: 157V 159Q 4.0AW
Observation Hours: 160 hours (outpatient ortho, acute, and inpatient neuro)

Any single word yet 🙁

Congrats on getting in. I just found out I got in to as well as at Western and CSUN. Do you mind telling me why you declined Chapman? Where are you going instead? Thanks!

I posted this on a CSUN thread, just my thoughts! It may or may not help. Just throwing it out there.

I went to a preview day at CSUN and visited other private schools (Asuza & St. Augustine). Here are my thoughts, hopefully it helps. This is my opinion regarding my likes/dislikes about my visits. This may not apply to you.

COST:
Hands down, CSU’s will be more affordable. Being someone who will definitely need loans and will have no help from family, CSU will be a desirable choice.

PARKING:
When visiting CSUN, parking took me back to undergrad days. I felt as if I must arrive an hour or two to find parking. If you will be living at a “walkable” distance, you should have no problem. I did not ask if PT students get parking spaces, but most CSU graduate students get the same priority parking as undergrads: “free for all”.

At the private schools I visited, there was no problem with parking. Also, after a night of over studying, you can just park fairly close and run to class without being out of breath. Again, if you go to CSUN, you must plan on getting to campus 3 or 4 hours before class starts. It is a far walk from all parking lots (I don’t mind walking/running), I am just thinking about those late nights of studying and rushing to class the next day).

ENTRANCE TO LABS:
Entrance to classrooms at CSUN may be limited. At the private schools, every student has an access card, and has access to classrooms/labs at certain times (Asuza: 24 hours, St Augustine: Until midnight). This may be valuable if you need to practice anything hands on.

ENVIRONMENT:
Asuza's program is all on one level, everyone knows everyone, and everyone you see is usually in the program. St. Augustine was just the same. The entire building was for PT/OT/PA Students that have taken classes you have taken/currently in/will take. To me, this means even if I may not know the student I am passing by, there is a good chance if I have a question about something PT or class related, they could direct me somewhere, or help somehow. The students looked like a family and close knit. When I visited Asuza on a random day, I was able to talk to 4 professors, the admissions coordinator, and they had two students give as a tour and sit in and observe a few classes. They were all interacting (with each other and with their professor) and seemed like they were having so much fun. Professor’s office doors were open. It was amazing how helpful everyone was.

At CSUN I believe many other programs are within the same building (I think engineering but I could be wrong). Most classes are nearby, with few classes somewhere else on campus. Hallways seem very empty and quiet. I saw only one professor, which was the one giving the presentation. Many of the professors’ office doors were closed. When observing the classes, the only one that seemed like students were having fun was in the cadaver class (but maybe I visited close to examination time?). Although we walked through other classes, I did not see a professors present in many of them (lunch time possibly?)
I don’t know how much the professors get paid, but I assume that private schools pay their professors more. I can’t say this leads to happier professors that are more helpful and willing to teach, but the professors seemed very involved at the private schools.

PASSING RATES:
During Asuza’s preview day I learned graduation rates, Licensure passing rates, and employment rates have very little meaning. Graduations rates may vary, depending on grade rules certain schools may have. Is B passing? Is C passing? What minimum GPA do you need before you get kicked out? Is it a bad school if they have higher standards? Even if it takes a student 4 or 5 times to pass the licensure exam, they are counted as a pass. Employment rate can mean they were employed right out of school or 3 years after school. Eventually, they are employed, unless they take a different route, or go back to school for another degree.

I may have just have visited CSUN on an off day, but I was very impressed with my visits to other schools. If there are others that visited CSUN and had an entirely different experience, please feel free to post. I will be applying to schools soon. It is important for me to visit all the schools and experience the environment that I may be in!

I just recently got accepted and was wondering what everyone was doing for housing and if anyone was looking to room with someone?

I received an acceptance email from Chapman today.. am also trying to decide between CSUN and Chapman!

samiwall, can I ask if you got off the waitlist or just got an acceptance?

Anyone going to Chapman looking for housing? I am from Orange and live at home, my house has 3 or 4 empty rooms (depending on if I end up going to Chapman, or if I commute to USC for my DPT and I'm looking to rent them out. Would be willing to rent for cheap!! Message me!
