Just paid my deposit for Chapman University so it's official that I'll be in the class of 2015! 😀 Are there any of my fellow classmates on here?

Woohoo! That makes three of us that I know! 🙂 Chapman here we come!

Chapman 2015!!!! 🙂 Maybe more people will post once they put down their deposits 🙂

I just got paid my deposit---so excited! See you there 🙂

I was accepted, but haven't paid my deposit yet. I don't know much about Orange County or Chapman, can anyone who has been accepted give me an overview of the pros/cons of the school and area?

This is what a Current DPT student in the class emailed me:

Hi,*Shadé,
Congratulations on getting accepted into Chapman and Loma Linda! How exciting! Regarding your questions:

What do you like most about Chapman?
I really love the student-focused teaching environment at the department. *I like how the instructors are so invested into our learning and preparing us to be excellent clinicians. *I have always received a warm welcome from the professors when I have stopped into their offices to get clarification on any questions, and they always seem very warm and genuine about addressing any concerns I have. *I like that the class is small (about 50), so we really get to know each other well. Also, their passing rate on the boards is very high, almost 99% , so we know that they really teach us the pertinent information.

What do you dislike about Chapman?
I don't think there is anything about Chapman per se that I dislike. A lot of the things that have been stressors during PT school were intrinsic to the demanding nature of the program itself. *If there is one thing that I would wish they would improve upon is the shortage of neuro or pediatric placements for our clinical rotations. But this is universal to all programs in the SoCal area... it is just kind of the nature of the beast to have difficulty finding spots for students.*

Is it expensive to live in the area?
I would imagine that if you wanted to rent a room in an apartment, you would want to plan on about $800 a month... I'm not entirely sure since I live about 20 min away. *I'm sure if you wanted to rent a room from a family in their home, you can get away with paying less.*

Are all the classes PT oriented or focused?
The majority of the classes are directly tied to patient practice management, which are more relevant to the clinical side of PT (i.e. ortho, neuro, rehab, general med, cardio, pediatrics, geriatrics). *The other classes are more theory-based (i.e. anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pharmacology, imaging, ethics, heath psychology). *There are also classes like the ones that prepare you on how to open your own business, or help you complete a research project. So, in a nutshell, yes, they are all relevant to PT, but in terms of the "hands-on" type classes there are probably 50% of the didactic classes that are specifically tied to patient management. I have attached the class rubric that outlines the classes per semester.

The area is not bad at all, you're one exit away from Disneyland and the OC is one of the safest areas in California, it's just expensive to live there because of that and we're closer to the beach.

Hi guys! I've sent my deposit in to Chapman, too! Have you guys actually received your info packets, though? I've been waiting for mine for 3 weeks now and have yet to get anything in the mail. Just curious... 🙂

No I haven't gotten my official letter and information packet in the mail yet and it's freaking me out a little. Lol. Hopefully it'll come sometime this week so I can really get the accepted feeling.

I haven't gotten my packet yet either. The only thing I have gotten so far was an email saying who my adviser/mentor is and I got that today. The packets will probably be here soon!

Hey everyone, I asked Serena about the packets a couple days ago and she said they haven't been mailed yet but should be out within the next few days. 🙂

Awesome. I'll look out for it in the mail then. And I just got my mentor/advisor email today. 😀
. So do any of you live around the Brea area? Me, Purkinje, and DPT 2 BEE are meeting up this Friday to celebrate and get to know each other. Message one of us if you guys can make it.

Decided to accept Chapman's offer! Put down my deposit. Are others going to the student introduction event in May?

Yea I'm going in May. Only live 30 min from Chapman so it's no big deal. Want to meet all my classmates and maybe see who would want to share an apartment or house with me in the area because I don't want to be at home for the first 2 years.

I'll be at the luncheon in May, too! And I'm in SoCal as well.

I'll be there in May too! Can anybody find the facebook page Serena emailed us about? I can't

I actually got an invitation to join, I think. Did you accept Chapman Univ as a friend? I think I had to do that first. Otherwise, I may be able to suggest you as a friend to the page, which I can see is "closed." If you wanna PM me your last name, I can try! 🙂

I didn't get an invitation but I ended up finding it! My facebook email is different than the one they have for me so I don't think I was going to be getting an invitation anytime soon! Thanks! 🙂

Ok, nice! Make sure you get added to the Class of 2015 page too!

I just sent the friend request so I haven't been able to see that part of the site yet. I'll do that as soon as they let me in!

so I haven't received anything official from Chapman yet, but i have been checking my webadvisor relatively consistently and do not believe I've seen the enrollment/housing deposit links until a few days ago under "admission information". However, I have yet to receive any email from them telling me whether I had gotten in or not. Can anyone verify with me whether or not these links are available to everyone or has my admission status actually changed without any notice?

I don't know if that means a decision has been made or not. You should be notified by email when a decision has been made. The only thing I had checked prior to being accepted was my admission status on webadvisor, so I can't tell you whether or not the links for enrollment were there before. They said end of February/early March, so you should be hearing from them soon! Good luck!!!

Paid my deposit, have never been out there though, trying to plan a trip now. And I just have to add Chapman University on Facebook to get invited to the 2015 group?

You have to add Chapman Univ DPT ( exact spelling ) as a friend first to get added to the 2015 class. If you can't find the Chapman Univ DPT on Facebook, message me and I'll message you the link.😀

My acceptance email was addressed to a different name. I called & emailed but they never responded. All subsequent emails have had my name & I got the official packet. I'm just a little off-put by the fact that I couldn't get in contact with anyone.

can you email it to me as well please? I put in my deposit yesterday, this is so exciting!

Woah, you guys already got responses? I haven't gotten any response from Chapman yet 🙁

I saw the same thing on my webadvisor (it said congrats on your acceptance in the links) and called the admissions department immediately after seeing this, apparently it was just a flaw in the system and it doesn't mean you are accepted. I was told that admissions decisions would be sent in the mail by mid-march.

yeah same, i called them today. I figured since Serena said a few times that she would notify us by e-mail first before anything else came about. Good luck though!

To the people who are planning on going to Chapman - may I ask, what made you choose it over Northridge, which is fairly close and a bit cheaper?

May i ask?...What were all of your stats for all the people that got accepted to chapman? Also congratulations, I will be applying summer 2012.
my stats are so far:
cum GPA: 3.28
PGPA: 3.47
so far...
I only have 100 hrs of hospital inpatient/outpatient. Will continue to get more.
My brain is exploding until i get into PT school. any tips is appreciated. May you all enjoy PT school because you made it!!

Well if I had heard form CSUN before Chapman I would have probably decided to attend CSUN, but I'm still waiting to hear from them. And Chapman is a great program, so why not? And I've already sent in my security deposit.. there are a multitude of reasons, haha.

And Bulldogpt, I see that you already received an acceptance letter from CSUN (congrats btw!!), can I ask when you submitted your PTCAS app? I just received a confusing email from CSULB's enrollment office, with my student ID # and a list of docs I had to turn in.. but I haven't heard anything from the PT dept there.. so does that mean I got in??

This is all so confusing, I wish we could receive admission decisions from all our schools at the same time, so we don't have to wait and see if we got into another school before we send in our deposit, etc..

It would just make everything run more smoothly, and less stressful!

My app was sent to CSUN on 11/15, so I was a couple months early. But I'm not sure that makes any difference as to the decision date, because I don't think they do rolling admissions. You can check that thread though, it's been pretty active because the emails were just sent yesterday.

Since your GPA's are a little on the low side I would really study for the GRE to make you competitive with other applicants who have higher GPAs. Especially Chapman because they don't have interviews and go solely on high GPA and GRE scores. I would also practice your interview skills if you are asked to them this/next year with other schools. Since you're already prepared to apply that's all the tips I can think of. Good luck to you!

I would suggest applying to schools outside of California as well. Also, apply to as many schools as you are financially able to; I regretted only applying to three schools. As previously said, Chapman looks solely at your numbers, so focus on getting your GPA up and getting strong GRE scores. You already meet Chapman's requirement for observation hours; unless you are applying to other schools that require more hours I would focus more on GPA and GRE.

Best of Luck!!!
