Hey guys,

Did anyone else receive an interview invitation today at Chatham in Pittsburgh?

It falls on the same weekend as Loma Linda for me. Got to fly to Pittsburgh sat and back to Cali Sunday for LLU interview. What a weekend it'll be!

I'll be attending the Chatham interview. Good luck with both!

Same here! I have an interview for Drexel on friday and right after i'll have to make my way to pittsburgh!

I was wondering when this one was sent out. Guess I didn't make the cut... 🤔

I had my app submitted by mid-August and received the invitation to interview on 10/12.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the interview? I interviewed yesterday and it was a bit more intense than I had expected. For future interviewees:

My interview was set at a small table, an alumni and a faculty member conducted a behavioral interview with me and 2 other prospective students. The entire interview consists of questions asking you to relate a quality to a specific experience you have had in your life. They would ask for a specific example, then read a quip about the definition of what they were looking for: communication, leadership, diversity, among some others. I think it was 6 questions.

The other two I interviewed with seemed a bit timid, neither wanted to answer first so I had to answer first each time.. It was uncomfortable and pretty intense. There was also a written interview with about 3 questions.

I'm interested to hear others thoughts. And good luck to everyone that interviewed.

Hello,

I attended the morning session and I enjoyed the whole process. What I especially found interesting was the mock PBL, this portion swayed me to consider chatham as my top choice. I also found the oral interview to be intense but very friendly.

I was in the afternoon session, I had roughly the same interview experience stated above. It was fairly intense but mostly just businesslike; I got the feeling that they were trying not give any feedback (verbal or non-verbal) to what you were saying because there were other interviewees present. There was one other candidate present in mine and we were instructed to take turns answering first. 5 questions for mine.

I found the session interesting; I like the way they do some things, but others not so much. I have never been thrilled with the PBL format but can go either way, I didn't like to hear about the massive 'matrix' research project. Chatham was previously my number 3 or so school, I don't think I was swayed in either direction after interview day.

I didn't really like the interview day. It was very intense and while professionalism is key, I just felt like they could have made it a more welcoming atmosphere. (speaking in regards of the interview). I interviewed at two other schools beside Chatham, Temple and Drexel (I was accepted to Temple and I'm very positive that I'll get into Drexel as well) and I enjoyed those experiences much better. I didn't feel like I needed to impress them or anything like that at those interviews but I got a weird vibe from Chatham. Again, I'm only speaking on the interview with the faculty member. It was like the faculty member became a robot when asking questions and not very personable. If I'm going to go to a school, I want to know that my interaction with faculty will be a rewarding and fun experience. I did not get to see their personalities at all. Anyways, from my experience, I know that I am pretty much not going to attend that school. Plus the students didn't seem that close with each other (I asked one of the current students about this) nor did they really have much to show for with their facilitates. During the tour, they showed us around a little bit and then it just went to general questions about the interview process etc. I was kinda hoping they would have more to show. We didn't even get to see the cadaver lab because it was on main campus.

I didn't care for the interview day. My interviewers were very cold and not welcoming at all. The questions were very odd also.. I hope this isn't what the school will be like if we get in!

I knew i couldn't be the only one to feel this way. I spoke to a few of the other interviewees after the day was over and I got some of the same responses. Was this school your first choice?

2nd choice, but still! It was unfair..
yeah, I totally agree. But my question was, do they not reject anyone? Cause the lady at the end said we would receive 1 of 3 decisions which was fully accepted, accepted upon completion of pre reqs, and waitlist.

Yep, it sounds like they waitlist everyone that doesn't get an initial acceptance.

I must not have heard them say the 1 in 3 thing.. Hopefully thats true because I felt like my interview could have been a lot better and I was afraid of just a straight rejection.. Maybe if I get put on the waitlist I'll get some luck and get off of it!

My issues is that there are only three different emails we receive such as an acceptance letter, conditional acceptance, or wait-listed, yet there are only 40 available seats and there were approximately 100 to 120 interviewees. I don't know if anyone feels this way but to me it feels like they invited to many potential candidates for the interview.

From what I heard, there were +/- 80 interviewees in the morning and+/- 80 interviewees in the afternoon. I do agree that there is a lot of possible applicants, but I did see that they go through the waitlist pretty extensively.

Is the reason why they go through the wait-list is because other schools around PA are starting to do interviews/acceptances in the coming months?

I think they go through the waitlist because people don't necessarily like the PBL that they shove down your throat. I Actually like it, but I saw a lot of posts saying they didn't care for it and they changed their top school order accordingly. Then those people would get accepted somewhere else, and boom, many spots open up. So the first 50-60 acceptances they send out, end up turning into 100+...

I find it interesting that some people hate PBL to the point that its a deal breaker, I am curious as to why some are disinterested in it?

I'm not sure.. Maybe people aren't good at teaching themselves compared to having traditional lectures.

some people feel that PBL is too tedious. which it can be but I think it does help you remember things. But I personally don't know if I would want that integrated with my curriculum for the entire time because I can see myself just rushing the research part of PBL after I get bored with it just because I know i HAVE to come to class with something. Plus it takes up a lot of time. I heard the students say they never get free time outside of school and while that may have been an exaggeration, I would hate to have that type of schedule. So yeah..

Yeah, i'm just hoping that we hear back soon. Any idea when we should hear back?

I don't particularly remember them saying you could be rejected, but I feel like they definitely have to reject people or that would be a crazy waitlist!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who felt the whole session was a little weird! I thought it was strange that they didn't even give a general overview of the program. Yes that information is online, but I hoped for further detail. I didn't think my interview was the worst experience but the professor definitely wasn't as friendly and personable as other professors I've interviewed with. I agree with others that this style of interviewing made it so they had to be emotionless, but it sucks since we couldn't judge how they would be as a professor. I did spend some time talking to some of the students in the program and they were really nice and seemed to be happy to be there.

Overall the experience felt like they were finding out more about us, but they didn't give us any information about them. I liked their facilities and Pittsburgh, but I don't know if that's enough to attend Chatham. Regardless, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for an email from them!

There are a number of students that I have talked to that have gone to the interview and will not be attending Chatham if accepted and there are a few students waiting for acceptance/rejection letters from other schools. I believe they only do acceptances and waitlist to ensure that their census is up due to that fact. On the brighter side, they interview 168 students for 40 slots which comes out to a 24% chance of acceptance.

I got my acceptance letter on 11/25 as well. They extended my deposit offer because I didn't reply by the (very short) Dec 1 deadline, so I just emailed them to decline since I put my money down at Pitt.

how did you word your decline email? i'm trying to figure out a way to decline without sounding rude or unprofessional.

Well I tried to reply to the email sent from the Assistant Director who sent my acceptance, but turns out that was a donotreply address and I didn't notice it. I'll probably call her on Monday to deny, but in an email I sent another program to deny I just tried to be courteous and along the lines of "I've accepted an offer to attend a different DPT program, thank you for you and all faculty for your consideration."

Anyone else just get that email from chatham? "There are still remaining seats in the class and you will receive your decision by december 23rd"
I just received an email as well. Also a few of the interviewees that I stayed in contact did as well.

I'm hoping its a good thing? I'm not sure if that means they haven't sent out all of the acceptances yet (I know some have been sent or maybe all?) or if that means they have and we're on the waitlist.. hmm..

Chances are they are going through each applicant very slowly. From what all the previous threads look like, once the seats are fill they then send out a wait-list email. I believe it is a positive sign that we heard a response.

Just got my email saying I'm on the waitlist. Has anyone been accepted off the waitlist yet?

It said you were on the waitlist? Or did is say "Thank you for interviewing at Chatham University! There are still remaining seats to be offered in our DPT Class of 2018, and as promised, you will receive your decision no later than Wednesday, December 23, 2015."

I got one today that said I was placed on the wait list. I didn't interview either

This is very confusing that people are getting emails for being wait-listed and emails that there are available seats on the same day. I feel like calling tomorrow and seeing what is going on to reduce confusion.

There has to be something wrong, if someone who didn't interview got waitlisted for admission, right?

I believe that they interview people off of the waitlist when available spots arise.
