Chatham University Interview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm a current first year student, feel free to message me if you have any questions... I know there are a few others who will be interviewing this weekend... Be yourself and good luck! 🙂

I'll be interviewing too! I'm also pretty nervous. I'll be flying out from Arizona!

How did they let you know about the interview? Did the online site change too? I also have an app in there. May be too expensive there for me though.

how long after you submitted your PTCAS application did you get contacted for an interview??

I will be there as well! DPT Hopeful, when did you submit your PTCAS? In order to be in for this interview you had to be E-submitted to PTCAS by October 3rd. I heard fairly soon after my materials were received. This is only for the Priority Deadline.

Great, I applied for the regular admissions.........had PTCAS in by mid Oct. Think the regulars are due by Nov. 15th.
Good luck to you all.

Chatham will probably cost me between 70-75k when it's all said and done. Just fyi 🙂

Is that tuition only or cost of living as well? I calculated about 68 for tuition

tinkerbellx2- Good Luck!!
Litlwarrior08- I got an email last week. But it was for priority deadline
Buckeyepat22- Good Luck as well!

So the interviews that are being conducted right now are for priority/early decision??

68 is more accurate, but I gave myself 2k additional for tuition hikes and another 5k for books/parking pass costs that aren't included in the tutiton/fees.

Living costs is different, my SO and I just bought our first home in May, so he is footing our bills while I'm in school; so basically my "expenses" include buying groceries for us and putting gas in my car (and saving money to pay off my loans) which I do via my unemployment. So, I'm in a much luckier situation than most.

Most of my classmates have gradplus loans for covering their living expenses. 🙂 Some live on campus (which equals out to about $900/month utilities included... although a couple of the guys claim their heat has yet to turn on once haha), but most found much cheaper housing options in the surrounding area.

I'm interviewing there on Saturday, too! This is my first interview as well, so I'm a bit nervous.

I hope that everyone did their best in today's interview.

Could you please share your experience?

What kinds of questions did you have in speaking & writing interview?

Any information would be very useful. Thanks in advance.

Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

How did you get unemployment???

Hehe, I kind of wondered the same thing about the unemployment. I thought you couldn't be a full-time student and qualify for it (and otherwise need to apply to multiple jobs per week or something). Maybe that's just in Ohio though?

For the UC questions, in PA you cannot be denied UC if you start attending school once you are receiving UC.

In my situation, I had a full-time job that was temporary that ran from Sept-July. I applied for the job because I had applied but had to wait a whole year before starting school. When July came around, I was laid off, I applied for and started collecting UC. In September I started school. But, since I was already collecting I am still collecting now and will be able to extend my UC for (hopefully) the entire time I'm in school.

So it's all about the collecting BEFORE starting school. I did not quit my job, I was laid off, thus I can collect. And it is VERY helpful, that is for sure!!

Is Chatham problem based learning and am interested in your opinion of problem based programs
@Markemarcel now that you are there how do you feel about this program vs traditional DPT programs?

We haven't really done any PBL yet, in the Spring I'll hit my first full PBL course, however, I am excited because it is a very holistic approach. Instead of having separate courses on subjects, ours are integrated in... Basically, next semester we'll be doing our musculoskeletal PBL course (round 1) and in the class we are broken up into small groups (7-8 people) with one faculty member who acts as a facilitator. Then, we are given a case study and have to use research and work on figuring out how to "treat" the patient. I was excited about this because it seems much more real life; I won't just get a total knee replacement, I will get Mr. Jones who is in his 60s, has diabetes, is on 5 different medications and a knee replacement. I feel that, hopefully, the PBL will set me up on how to deal with this much more efficiently than traditional lecture. Plus, with PBL you are responsible for your own learning; I like that. And, I was a teacher before I started PT school, so I learned how to teach PBL, so I understand the value of how it works from that stand point. And the nice thing about Chatham is that it's not full PBL or full traditional; it's a blend of both and was reason I chose to attend.

In any case, I'd be better off answering your question after next semester, but I do know of at least 1 second-year Chatham student on this board. (Can't remember their username, though).

I just received an acceptance email! I'm so excited :soexcited: I absolutely loved the school!

Julie S, Mirifical, Tinkerbellx2- Did you all apply ED to Chatham??

I also applied priority decision and attended the Nov. 19th interview.

Me too!!! mirifical are you going?

I'm going to wait until after finals to make my decision when I'm home and can talk about financing with my parents. Congrats!!!

Congrats on making it in! Do you know if they sent out all of their acceptances today? I didn't get an e-mail or call 🙁

congrats todos! but ughhhh you guyzzz i just got the waitlist email. womp de womp =( #overdramatic. but in all seriousness, i want to go here so so so bad!

#fingerscrossed for a hopeful eventual acceptance, and for everyone else as well. anyone have any experience being waitlisted here and then taken off of it? i hate being in this crazy limbo place!

Two of the first years that I talked to said that they were waitlisted at first. The one said he got off the waitlist in a couple days and the other said it took a couple weeks. Even though everyone's experience is different, it shows that there is definitely still hope.

I was waitlisted as well.... Does anyone know if everyone that interviewed was waitlisted or did they send out rejection letters as well?

I was also waitlisted! Here's to hoping for some better news soon!

I was waitlisted last year and didn't get in. I reapplied for the regular decision this year.

3 of my closest friends in the program were all waitlisted and they all got accepted. Be patient! A lot of people go to other schools that are their first/second choice and since Chatham is small sometimes people don't value the good education they can get there...

So be patient and good luck!!!

Found out yesterday that I got an interview at Chatham! I'm somewhat relieved, now I just have to prepare for the interview 🙂

Congrats! When did your appl. get mailed out by PTCAS? I haven't heard anything and the waiting period is brutal...
