After posting my DAT scores in this forum over a week ago, I have been PM'ed several times by SDN users asking for specific topics/questions that were asked. One user even went so far as to offer compensation for my revealing what I had seen on test day. I would like to say that actions such as those are completely wrong and a detriment to all who spend countless hours studying.

To all those who attempt to cheat in such a way: take a good look in the mirror. If you are willing to sacrifice your integrity to make a better score on the DAT, where will it end? If you do in fact get accepted into dental school (which BTW I hope none of you do) you won't be able to cheat your way through.

I ask that all SDN users maintain a sense of honor in this forum and shun these cheaters. Thank you and that is all.

I think the best way for ADA to avoid this is to make the DAT more resemble the MCAT, but have the PAT, which is unique and should always be kept, in place of the essay section.

yeah i dont think making the dat like the mcat is an answer to people cheating. people just need to be careful about how they help other students and what info they post in their score report posts.

Personally, helping out by saying "study basics" or "study conceptually" or "know details of respiration" I don't think is bad. It is kinda well known, as you can look at the ADA website and basically grasp that same knowledge by looking at the DAT outline. I too was approached for aid for after I take my test, as people have been watching my scores and assuming that I will do well (and I *obscene adverb* better, because I have and continue to put in heavy loads of studying). I think the goal of people here is to help each other out, the problem is that the DAT has become tough in order to weed out the unfit, and the unethical ambitious here resort to doing such things. What does this do? Well, ask any dentist who has worked in a hospital. Dentists are seen as second class citizens around doctors because of the dishonest punks who do this. Politely tell them to go *obscene verb* themselves, as I feel that is the only thing we can do. It's not our job to police them, and I just walk on knowing karma will get them in the end. To those *obscene nouns* reading (you know who you are), feel free to go hug a crocodile or something; they usually have a way to take your mind off your guilt.

Crocodiles are quite cuddly, what are you talkin about😕

something i never knew....it just crossed my mind...are all the exams same? i mean i thought since it is computerized, all the exam questions would be different...randomly picked. aren't they?

yeah cheating at this point is sick...i regret enough that used calculator in high school and undergrad..i m paying for it right now. hard work pays off.

I dont know if all test are the same or not but I do know that between the end of Jan and early Feb of this year the same test was run for a while. I unfortunatley witnessed someone who took the test come back and tell one of their friends everything they could possibly remember about all of the questions. I had taken the test 1 week prior and all of the questions that this person was telling their friend were alot of the same ones I had and didn't know. Needless to say the friend went on to take the test and made a 20AA and was accepted into school at the last minute while I wasn't. I know that person that was accepted did not study any harder than me yet they benefitted from someone else willing to cheat. Im still tryin to get over that.

same thing happened to me. some actually wanted specific questions whereas others tried to put a little trick on me to tell them questions.

Here are pms from one user

"Hi there, Nice scores. Congrats. Im sure you will get in to your top choice.
Im trying to find out what questions I got wrong in that test that caused my low score in biology. I had the test that had the Chicken question, did you have that? what did you chose for the answer?
I got the dolly question right. What did you get for the action potential domino question?"

I told this person that I had no idea what she was talking about then she replied,

"My sister took the DAT on the same day as me. She had the test that had the Slide question, Exon/Introns/and electrophoresis picture/questions. Did you have this test?
If so, my sister is not sure if she got the slide question right or not. She chose the Artery as where the cell belongs to. was this your answer? (she got low score in bio and she is wondering what questions she missed)
What about the Electrophoresis question?"

Now her sister took the test ???????????? Do you guys see what she's trying to do? this was just hilarious and i just ignored her from then. This is just one example. it's amazing how people want something w/o any effort.

One can take the test only 3 times over the course of his/her life. Right?

Jonathanaf, what music video is that hot dog throwing down on the track from? I remember I saw it mixed in with a wakeboarding video once..

How about this one......

"hey, kick ass job on your dat! i wish i can do as good as you! i was just hoping that you can give me some advice on what to focus on when studying for bio. if you remember any question on bio, that would be amazing. if you want, i can compensate for you. thanks for any help u can offer!!"

Sorry to sell you out, but that's bush league.

Telling your friends questions you remember is one thing, organizing this kind of mess is another. Its obvious that someones going to get in a world of trouble for it, so if I were these people, I'd be very careful. Or better yet, just stop🙄

I don't see what the big deal is, I mean there are several companies which capitalize on stressed pre dents. Kaplan, Achiever, Topscore etc. I am sure these companies have people take the test to formulate their own questions to sell? What's the difference? I am sure we are all guilty of purchasing one of these products. I wouldn't call it cheating. Rediculouso.

For an issue like this...I really don't see what posting on SDN is going to do. I mean, it's not like this is going to raise the level of morale. Cheaters will be cheaters...those are just the breaks in the game.

I don't really know...I mean, the process seems hard enough without having to worry about the level of morale. But, if it bothers you that much...posting about it on SDN is going to get you anywhere with respect to your cause.

Take it up with the ADA...present hard facts...and go from there.

Good luck.

Isn't cheating one way or another...still cheating?

OMG... people cheat? Organized questions? What will they think of next?

Why is cheating between friends acceptable, but not between strangers?

While I personally am not familiar with them, if the "pre-dent" clubs are anything remotely like many other associations of students, cheating is probably rampant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not for cheating, but I know alot of people that justify their cheating based on your rational. Looking at "your cheating" (and I say your as in the general example set out in your post, not you personally) as ok, and somebody else's (attempts) and then trying to grandstand about your superior morality doesn't reflect well.

"One thing" does not equal okay. I never said I thought it was right.

why don't you guys report the people who have pmed you for questions so SND mods can ban them (their ip address or something)?

wow this thread is unbelievable. it almost makes me laugh to think how pathetic some people can be, and at the same time upsets me because many of us have devoted so much time and energy into the DAT. i firmly believe in "cheaters never prosper" and if any cheaters are reading this....have some integriy people! we are future professionals and must learn how to incorporate good morals and values into our futures as dentists. and for the rest of us who are decent human beings, i wish you all the best on your DAT and application process 🙂

HA! I always thought the hotdog was talking into one of those old timey phones! 😆Yeah, I know I'm a dork.
