Cheating Interview Question

I'm new here so forgive me if this has been talked about. In the interview forum a lot of people seem to be asked a question along the lines of 'if you saw your friend cheating in class what would you do?'. In real life I would pull them aside and talk to them/see what was going on but is this what adcoms want to hear? Has anyone had to answer this question in an actual interview and what did you say?

Kind of a random question but I've worked through the other posted questions for the only school I applied to and this is the only one I'm unsure about. TIA.

I was just thinking about this question today when I saw people cheating on our Biochem test!

I know it can be more complicated than just pulling them aside especially if you know the person but I plan on answering the question that way as well.

i was shocked to see the number of students who cheated in college. i thought everyone would have grown out of that after hs and realized college is literally preparing for your future career. terrible. if i get into vet school...i hope i never see it. disgusting

I know people who admitted to cheating in high school and made it into vet school. I had yet to hear of anyone cheating until my entomology class this year. People were trading bugs under the table and those who hadn't been going to class were asking others to identify their bugs for them. Prof knew about it, and from what I've heard, threw an immature, cursing and swearing fit that lasted a week and docked so many points off their final collection. Glad my collection was over and done with so I didn't have to deal with that!

When I first read the question, I missed the word "friend" and thought that if I saw a stranger cheat, I probably wouldn't have to guts to do much about it. But a friend? Yeah, I'd have the guts to talk to them.

If this was a good friend of mine and I pulled him/her aside, they continued to cheat, and I told somebody about it, they would know that I squealed on them (because I'm a horrible lier) and then possibly make my life heck.

So what's wrong with just telling somebody about it?

Okay first of all, if one person saw them cheating, then it's completely possible that someone else did, too. Second, if you turn someone in for cheating in vet school, there's a decent chance they will not be around anymore to be able to make your life tough. And third, is that the kind of friend you want - one who would give you crap because you gave them a chance, they blew it, and so you had to report the cheating? There is always the option of just turning them in right away, but most people want to give their friends a chance... And are willing to risk being a little uncomfortable in order to do so.

I know. There is a huge problem with cheating at my school. Especially when you have 200+ people in all of the early bio, gen chem, organic, and physics classes. I heard that there was a group of girls that cheated off each other for every one of those classes and they all got into pharmacy school Right now I feel like they are only hurting themselves since they will not be ready for a professional curriculum and will most likely not do well but if I come across it in vet school I'm sure I will have a different outlook on the situation.

Here was my response to several interview questions:

What is the greatest adversity you have ever faced and how did you deal with it?
- Losing my dog Pongo...I didn’t. I just repressed it. Consequently I act out my frustration violently on others. Did I mention I wet the bed?

How do you feel about euthanasia?
- I love it!

OR

- I don't know. (pause) Supposedly they're really good at math, but I didn't know too many chinese people growing up?

How do you plan to pay for vet school?
- Begging and prostitution

How do you anticipate veterinary school will be different from undergrad?
- Well for one thing, I won't do as many drugs!

Why and when did you decide you wanted to be a veterinarian?
- Veterinarian?!? (run out of room)
