If you havn't noticed, there have been many questions regarding DO's in prestigious medical positions. This was to prove a point that DO's can accomplish anything.

It is always great to see posts and links to DOs in the community. Thanks for sharing. That is a sad story. I wonder if they will find her killer.

the post is fine. we all know its possible to be distinguished and successful subspecialists, but a lot of people are always saying its improbable. its nice to be reminded that the DO degree can't hold you back. and its random at best, not random and best. 😛

And that is the point!! We know that DO is the route for us, BUT what about those people who are applying this June or next June, etc.... They may not know about the successfulness of the DO profession and they will come to SDN to find out about it.

It's nice to see posts and articles which serve to bolster the idea that the osteopathic route is becoming less and less of an obstacle to success - compared to earlier times when there was more rampant discrimination.

However, if you see no need for such posts, either ignore it, or state your opinion and move on.

Conversely, let us not resort to name-calling when someone fails to see the utility of such posts.

You may be fairly familiar with SDN, but people new to SDN are not.....you also may also be familiar with osteopathy...but there are many, many others who are not..what makes you think you're so great that no one should talk about other DO success stories....i know for a fact that there was a point in time where you wondered how far can you get with a DO degree....the point of my original post was to further reinforce the fact there are DO's in highly competitive fields such as cosmetology....

No kidding. My friend's girlfriend has spent a full 9 months in training and is still not a fully certified cosmetologist....and she had to wait 3 months to get into the program!

I apologize ahead of time for this post. I?m going to get flack for this I?m sure, I guess I just feel like playing devils advocate today...

I'll agree these kind of things have their place, but not in a new thread. I think, and i don?t think im alone, that this shows a lack of confidence. It gives that ?Hey im so shocked that I actually found a DO doing ______, I can?t believe it, my life isn?t a waste!!? feel that makes me want to puke. If it were like a DO in space or something, that?s cool. Now a DO general surgeon who did a fellowship in cosmetic surgery. I mean he?s not even a plastic surgeon. there literally has got to be hundreds of DO?s just like this.

I'll give up some ground here and admit that yes this is the pre-osteo forum and maybe it is news to some people about what a DO is, does, and how far they can go. However one anecdotal post isn?t going to give anyone much faith, who?s to say they arnt thinking maybe this one guy got lucky.

Those "a-ha" moments i usually get are when I look at hospitals and i see a history of many DO's that get into the fields & residencies that I want to go to. Although I'll admit that there has to be one DO that starts it all, I just don?t get that warm fuzzy feeling until i see several of them, not just one.

Which brings me to my point numero dos: I get that warm fuzzy feeling all the time. If you want I'll find as many DO's in competitive fields as I can and give each one a brand spankin? new thread for themselves...I bet I can take up at least 10 pages doing that, you call that productive use of web board space?

ok..after a nice explanation....i can see how others may view the original post....but ok...Good...you know that DO's can go into any specialty.....but you're already in medical school...and almost done with your first year

What is the relationship in training between cosmetic and plastic surgery? I didnt know there were specifically cosmetic surgeons, is that a fellowship in plastics?

PS. Id be more proud of the pediatric neurosurgeon that Cowboy DO linked rather than a boob job doc. Pediatric neurosurgery is hardcore.
