Hey everyone, for those of you that have taken the DAT, do I need to bring anything with me to the testing center aside from my two forms of ID? Like printing out my testing ticket or any of that? Or can I just show up?

You applying this cycle Feralis? For some reason I always assumed you had already taken the DAT.

I'm taking the DAT in 1.5 weeks -- I'd like to know too!

I'll have to set some time aside to do a break down if people want a detailed one, but my scores were:

AA: 28
TS: 30
PAT: 23
QR: 22
RC: 28
Bio: 30
GC: 30
OC: 29

Quick overview: the science sections and RC were a lot easier than anything I expected, PAT was roughly on par except for the keyholes which were insanely hard (legitimately 10x harder than the hardest ones I've ever seen, I couldn't even figure out what view was being used for at least half the objects), and QR (normally my best section) was straightforward but I was really tired and ran out of time.

Harvard Dental School.

Did you use DAT Achiever along with Bootcamp? After your analysis, I might invest in the unreasonably difficult Achiever to prepare for the worst on the PAT.

Also, is the format of the actual DAT similar to Bootcamp's where one can hop from question to question on the bottom of the screen? Say, from #1 to #27 with one click of the mouse?

I didn't use Achiever. I actually didn't get a chance to do any "full" practice tests (e.g. Achiever, Topscore, 2007 and 2009 ADA) despite intending to, so I've got no idea how they stack up. The closest to the difficulty of the keyholes from the software I used was Bootcamp, but for at least half the questions the real thing was more difficult in a different way...it wasn't exactly about emphasizing proportions like Bootcamp does, it was something else, like the objects were just too crazy in shape to wrap my head around. Maybe I was too tired.

You can't jump to specific questions like Bootcamp lets you, unfortunately. You go backward/forward question by question with the previous/next buttons. At the end of a section you can "Review Marked" or "Review Incomplete" to run backward/forward through just the questions you marked or didn't answer. But no smooth overview that lets you pick the question.

This is insane. Well done Feralis! Hope I meet you at an interview and thank you for the notes in person!

Fereli is is a good idea to skip between sections on the PAT, say skip the keyholes and TFE and come back to them? Or would I be wasting too much time?

I wouldn't skip around personally, I barely finished PAT in time and I think hitting "next" and "previous" to navigate through 90 questions for a slight edge in getting the easier stuff done first wouldn't have been worth it.

However, if you really wanted to you could do it that way... if you don't put any answer down for the first 30 questions (Keyholes and TFE), when you get to the very end of the PAT section you can press "Review Incomplete" and that should navigate you straight to the first 30 you skipped over so you don't have to go backwards through all 90 questions to reach the start again.

Once you click on a question to review, would you have the ability to go back to that same review incomplete page within one click? Or are you forced to go through the entire section again till you get to the last question to click review incomplete?

Sorry if my wording doesn't make too much sense...

OH **** killer scores man! I would have killed someone to have those scores to get in to my state school. this whole time I've been on SDN I actually thought you already took the DAT and was busy giving your advice and study guides to everyone on the pre-dental and DAT forum. Prep the interview and you'll be going somewhere (hopefully somewhere affordable or with scholarship🙂)

Hmm, I actually can't remember if you can break out of the "Review Incomplete/Review Marked" cycle manually. I feel like you can - there might have been some option like Cancel, but I'm not 100% sure.

like feralis says, its not a good idea to skip around. I've noticed for the PAT, you go through 90 questions divided into six categories. When looking at the key hole sections its best to be focused on the keyhole strategies instead of constantly switching tactics when skipping over questions. Plus for the block questions, some questions kind of depend on the first question since its the same image but asks for a different number of faces this time.

That's what I thought too! The explanations to DAT queries had the same insight as someone who already aced and took the test. = )

Wow! Congrats on the score. Looking for the break down as well 🙂

lol i need this breakdown, i feel like this is like gossip tabloids for pre-dents haha

congrats

wowowowowooww.

just Wow. Those scores are basically perfection.

Congratulations!! 🙂

I knew Feralis was going to do well, but 30 TS and 28 AA? Wow. Congrats you definitely earned it!!

Congratulations dude!!
Can you tell us how you studied for the sciences especially the bio section. Besides reading your own file did you do anything else?
Thanks !
