checking on your volunteer hours

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
doubt it, but don't lie on your application. If they find out in the future that you lied about something in your app, you will be in VERY VERY big trouble.

Dental schools usually don't have time to check up on every applicants volunteer hours, but they MIGHT. If you have something on your application like volunteering 5000 hours working in a remote village in the Brazilian jungle, they might decide to check up on that just to see if its true. 🙂

I'll be the first to say that I find the very fact that you're asking this question to be highly amusing.

Who knows if they check, or whether some do and some don't, but whatever you do you can consider it a crystal ball for how you'll conduct yourself in the future.

I'm volunteering now, at this point of my volunteering I don't really care how many hours I volunteer because I am surrounded by such dedicated group of people who bring out the best of dentistry.

Is there any sort of "expiration" on volunteer work. I did plenty back in highschool and even junior high. Kinda slacked off the last few years without any excuse other than I'm always busy with class and school related activity. My advisor said that volunteer work is volunteer work and it doesn't matter when, but other people have told me that recent stuff is far more relevant/useful.

From my understanding you can only use volunteering stuff from undergrad years. No digging back in high school or middle school. Only hours from undergrad.

I might have put some volunteer work from high school, only because it carried over to when I was in college. I mean you would put your work experience from high school, right?

*Would* you put your work experience from high school?????

They don't check but they might ask you questions about it during your interview and you better sound like you actually put in those hours 🙂

How do you guys keep up with the amount of hours you've done? Do you just give an estimate or do you write it down everytime you go?

At the hospital where I worked they have computer system to sign in and out, so that's how I kept track of my hours 🙂

Cool, but where I go there is nothing like that....homeless shelter, community building etc.

I just found out that a couple of people I did undergrad with completely lied about their dental shadowing and got into two pretty competitive programs. It seems that they don't and makes sence that wouldn't with that many students applying. P.s. they didn't even do any, isn't that crazy?!? Completely made it up.

Well i guess its pretty possible... Very unethical in a way, but you gotta do what you gotta do i suppose 😕
