I am an IMG applying for gen surg this year. I would like a categorical spot but I am realistic. Im going through programs and checking the preliminary and categorical boxes. I figured if I am not good competitive for categorical then they would consider for prelim. Maybe this comes off as desperate or dedicated, I'm not too sure. Any feedback from program directors on checking both boxes?
